Hmm... How about a little bit more strenous benchmark?
For 0.422s of action you would not even need HSF at all Just naked CPU without any cooling

But seriously, got some SuperPi 32M or something? Would be nice

Nice cpu speed, but try running 32M instead of 32k

I think the SS was a little more strenuous than the SPI bench

I bet you can get more out of it man.

What cooling are you using? At 1.488v you are going to have a hard time with temps in a shuttle

What's this going to do to the price of the fx, sd and venices that we now own? I can't believe AMD is going to let operton be the darling of oc'ers.

why not? the FX's are better without question and the enthusiast market is surprisingly small.

that aside, the 32k bench makes me giggle. definitly try something a bit more intense. just be careful with the voltage, it seems that the opterons get mad hot over 1.5v (i know mine does )
Got a fan over those memory sticks? No? Well get to it before you kill them

hrm I have a SN95G5 V3 shuttle box, its skt 939 I wonder if a 939 opteron will work in it would be way cool.
I currently have a week 17 venice in it that can hit 2.75ghz on 1.55v and 2.55ghz on stock voltage.(which is what I keep it at most of the time)
wonder if gettin the opteron will do me much more with the cache and all...

2.8ghz stock voltage seems nice! =)

wheres the best place to pick these up? Ive seen a few posts on here of where to get em...anyone know which of these has the best price?

They don't scale like other SD's did with voltage. They'll definitely improve slightly if your cooling can handle it though.

    .
The 144 and 146 I have at stock voltage run hotter then the 3700sd at stock volts. Mine don't run as cool as the venices or sd at stock volts.

    Yes....and?

Even with temps under control, these Opties really don't scale like San Diegos with added voltage.

That's interesting, because 144 has lower thermal design power than 3700 (67 watts vs. 89 watts), ironically it runs hotter.

It's more like they run really hot and don't need the voltage

I'm sure mine could go past 3.1GHz on a Big Typhoon, my watercooling ain't great.

Maybe they purposely made them run hotter by using dodgy paste so we would have to remove the IHS and our warranty to push them further.

    Anyways to the OP.

Bad theory...I didn't gain a whole lot from losing the IHS (which wasn't flat) and the inside paste was the same as the stuff from my X2.

Maybe these TDPs are actually accurate and the A64s are overshoots? Actually, we KNOW the A64s are in fact overshoots.

They don't at all scale like a sd. That's why they just can't be a regular sd with operton lasered on the IHS.

They could be the center of wafer dies...they should have the same characterstics in theory, but something is irking me a little. Namely, does anybody have a good pic of a nakid SD? It seems to me this core is a little taller and a little narrower than a San Diego--I could be completely wrong as I don't have one in front of me, however.

Opterons are the new OEM cpu, IMHO. they had to do something with that market, and lo and behold..announced no more OEM's, right after release of new line...

It also strikes me that they are different than most SDs. It does seem that SDs like less volts than say, Venices, but these opterons are extremely low-volt, more so than SDs. A naked comparison between Opti and SD would be a good idea. It can't just be taken from the center of the wafer, tha twould just be an SD with an 00xx batch number.
