Talking Finally found a good X2

So far I've went through two X2 3800, a 4200 and 4400, all of them are very poor overclockers and required load of vcore, decided to get the 4600 but my local computer store didn't have it in stock, though I saw two 4200 on the shelf, one of them has a stepping of CDBHE 0524 RPMW, the other one is CDBHE 0520 MPMW, well...be it the good ol' Barton, Winchester, Venice, San Diego, or these dual core, for whatever reason the earlier stepping always seems to clock slightly better so I took the later, without much effort here is what I got....

    X2 4200 CDBHE 0520 MPMW:

This 4200 LOVES lower vcore, very good memory controller as well, I'll have to play around with it and see what else is left in it

Nice dude... 6th time is the charm or w/e what i found is these chips hate voltage... my 4400 does 2.9 @ 1.52 under a chiller... but hits a wall at 3 gigz and no matter what voltage... might be mem. controller.

my CCBWE 0532 TPMW 4400+ with the IHS removed won't even prime at 2.90 regardless what vcore I'd tried, it has a very weak mem controller as well. My very first 4200+ stepping was CDBHE 0524 SPBW....only manged 3.04Ghz @1.68v with 256MB x2 GSKILL, if I use the XP4000 Redline or 2GB Ballistix then 3.0Ghz max, but memory controller started to failed, and it died few days later hopefully this one would last me for the next 6 months

My first 4400x2 one core did 3.2 @ 1.66 while the other one crapped out on me way back at 2.9 1.7 i hope this one does better.

this 4200 is awesome....3.0Ghz @1.53v prime stable!! not sure if I can lower the vcore down another notch but I think this is definitely the sweetspot

    1.53v....sweeet!!

looks like I'm going to keep this one and skip the 4600 for now

    nice core you have there...

This is how the x2's like the mess w/ people. Try to do 3.1 if you can do 3.1 then your chip is great. Mine like i said does 2.9 at like 1.52... but then hits a wall at 3 gigz.

I'd tried 3.13Ghz (11 x285) at 1.65v earlier and after 30min on two instances of prime the Smartguardian reports the cpu temperature fluctuated at 7~9'C underload, I have a UEI DT200 temperature probe on the evaporator next to the core and it reports somewhere around -22'C~-25'C, another probe on the compressor and it's kicking out about 75'C of heat....I have a portable A/C running in this computer room as well but this single stager is cranking out some serious hot air, I had already added a 120MM 110cfm exhause fan on this phase change but this tiny little Matshushi*ta compressor is taking a pretty good beating by the massive heatload I might be able to lower the vcore back down to 1.63v @3.13Ghz but for now it's probably a good idea to take it easy on this 4200, still not sure how the previous one died so I hope I won't kill this one by pushing it too far...only wish I have a cascade to keep the heatload down.

I dont' have butt load of money to burn wanted to save some money and bought the lower end dual core, but before I knew it I was spending more and more money to try different stepping just to hit the prime stable @3Ghz mark, If I had to do it all over again I would definitely jump on the 4600 and be done with it. For my next upgrade I'll definitely get the higher end stuff instead of keep buying the budget stuff in hope to get lucky

    Thanks Major

This 4200+ has an excellent memory controller as well, no problem running my 2GB of Ballistix at 300 @3-3-3-8. The rest of my X2 can only do 290~292.

Very cool. Are you going to try for higher clocks? Would it respond if you gave it 1.62 volts or not?

thanks yes it would respond to higher voltage, but the tremendous heatload put loads of stress on this little compressor

This is just insane. How much do you think it would do on air?

I'm not sure....haven't try benching anything on air ever since I got the phase change, I think it should do 2.75~2.8Ghz on air and around 2.9Ghz on water?

For some reason my core 0 is slightly weaker than core 1, it's always the first one to failed whenever I tried to prime at 3.0Ghz with only 1.46v. All my X2 have this kind of behavior as well...either core 0 or 1 is weaker than the other, from what I've seen on all the discussion threads I think this is normal.
