P35 mobo or DFI 965-S?

I need a new mobo but I cant decide which one to get for my E6600..... The DFI 965 has pretty much everything I need but with the P35 mobos being available now, Im not too sure if its still a good choice..... So my question are....

Is the P35 faster than the 965 clock for clock?

Is there anything new with the P35 that the 965 doesnt have?

Im not too concern about future compatibilities or any 24/7 stuff..... I only want things that can improve benchmarks...... Thanks....

* I know I can wait and look at benchmarks cos NDA should be lifted today but my local store only has 3 DFI left..... had 11 couple days ago...

Well, I won't go i965 anymore if I were you, and would rather sit it out till new boards comes in. If not the first P35, you can camp out and wait till BIOS revisions are mature for the newer chipset. I doubt mobo manufacturers will take as much time as they take with i965 in terms of tweaking the board/bios since they (OEM/ODM) should be fairly familiar about how the new Intel CPUs work.

Apparently not really, but it seems to run cooler and clock a bit higher (due to the 65nm tech) and it has 12 USB ports (vs 10).

Yes and theres also DDR3 support, with P5K3 DLX, and also Native 1333 FSB support (not that that matters)

Don't see much point in opting for what must be about the last 965 mobo to hit the market. (excluding asus's variation on a theme) IMO despite the marketing hype that's surrounded the launch the dfi product is 6~9 monrths too late.

Going P35 makes more sense in keeping an upto date board.

Clock to clock performance, you have to see the benchmarks. i.e. wait at least a few weeks. NDA should have expired today.

The first P35 boards are NOT hassle-free. I have a 965-S and I'm not jumping on the P35 bandwagon because I avoid unmature chipset and boards like pest. If and when X38 or intel will support SLI and quad core penryns, then it makes sense to upgrade again.

How do you people not see that P965-s is a great deal at $140? Do you really want to pay an extra $100 be an early adopter for P35? Or do you have plans of buying DDR3 as soon as it comes out?

I say go with the proven king P965. $140 and you're done. Then in a year, when there are a whole slew of new penryn and ddr3 boards with the bugs worked out you can decide if you want to get another board for $140. If you add up the money spent it'll be about the same with way less risk.

I say buy 965 at the sweet spot and let the guys who get free boards as promo goods be the bug testers.

Price was the deciding factor at the end, I figure I can still get a good price for my commando so im not going to spend too much at the end..... Also If I get a P5K then I will need to do some mods whereas the DFI should be fine at stock.....

I took DFI now, and the next MB will be p35 + ddr3 when DDR3 prices are fine

True not all P35 boards cost $240. However, they are already available here in the US. The Giga board was just delivered to me and the P5K dlx will be shipping out to me also. Got the Giga from clubit.com (they're out now) and the P5K dlx is available from Ewiz.com. They mention some "embargo till June 4, 2007" which I asked customer service about and they were confused by that. Bottom line, my order is in "the wherehouse" and will be shipping out to me today.

p35 and p965 perform quite similarly. as for overclocking, p35 should fair on average a deal better

that said, it's unsure at the moment if any p965's will support penryn. but p35 will.

My next board will be X38 (or a new nvidia chipset if the former doesnt support SLI) with 8GB ddr3 @1600. And a Penryn cpu

The DFI is a good board for now. Too soon to jump on the p35 & too costly to jump on the p38. The price/performance ratio of the DFI P965-S is hard to argue though it seems some stripped p35 boards can be had for the same price.

I got the board in front of me now and all I can say is it looks cheap compared to the Commando..... As long as it performs as I wanted it to then Im totally ok with that...... Ovrclocking wise, I only need it to hit around 540fsb cos my cpu right now can only go 530fsb ( hoping for more ).....

The penryn for me is too far away to worry about and when the time comes that I want to upgrade, Ill get the proper board for it..... Its a new gen of cpu and will probably need a new gen mobo/ram to run it properly....

All I want right now is something that will make my E6600 run as fast as it can and I think this is the mobo to do it..... The price is right too.....

Yeah I hear what you say about the look of the p965-s. Not sure why they didn't use a better pcb and make it a lanparty quality board, but the thing is mega fast and has a great bios.

I think you made the wise choice. Or maybe I'm justifying my own! Nah, it's a sick board.

I got some aftermarket coolers coming and I'm siked to build with this board. Even cutting a 120 hole in the top panel of the old pc-60 for this build, gonna crank up the heat!

I fully agree, this is my first DFI board I've owned, I think I'll stick with them, better support as well.
Asus = Quantity boards all they care about is rushing new motherboards onto retail, crap customer support.
DFI = Quality boards. . .

DFI should implement a bios recovery like Asus, last thing you want is a bad bios flash.

I agree. I'm in the same position as you, but after I saw intel's plans on making a DX38PT motherboard, that pretty much solidified my wait . But as for a hold-over now, the DFI is an amazing motherboard. I might go pick it up too

I have to agree here, last time I had an ASUS board it was a total lemon last time I bought one I swore them off but the p5k is tempting but overall I think the DFI 650i is gonna win for me. Top 2 boards I've seen with issues or something crapping out on them: ECS #1 Asus #2. My favs so far Biostar, DFI
