LOL that is nice, but when is Intel going to make Nvidia SLI drivers offical for their 975 boards? Haha it really makes no sense for them to keep Crossfore as the only option.

Hmm........I wonder how this will compare to other 975s for OCs?

The price will drop but honestly I would be suprised if Nvidia chipset > Intel.

The guy who designed the heatpipe must have thought: "Why don't we make it all around the CPU socket "

Anyway I don't see any cap around the CPU socket so that might mean it has digital PWM

What about coolers like the Scythe ninja, etc. I wonder if it will still fit? Also, I hope my OCZ titanium DDR2 1000 RAM will work with this. It seems to say specifically DDR2 800.

Looks great, maybe will be my next DualGPU platform on this MoBo. Because R600 MoBo is in ..., and 8800GTX is very close. My next game machine will not be Crossfire, but SLI ....

And when you say "it" to who are you referring to? It cannot connect "it" self. The user must do that and, that is usually after you assembled your case (including the MB). And, even if you are able to fit the 4/8 pin 12V PSU connector one normally does not want live wires butting on a heat source.

guys c'mon, do you seriously think that they would make the cpu power connector not accessible?

you could always take the heatpipe off and individual HS if you have a large HSF that has fitment issues.

    @Kemp3
DFI will also make a nF680i board in the Lanparty UT series, . It's in the planning according to this link, among others BTW.

    Now back on topic:
I really like the Striker Extreme, I've been waiting for it for ages! I'm really thinking of replacing my 3 year old rig (Compaq Intel P4 system) for one with a Conroe, G80 , 2GB and running Vista.

we are talking asus here and YES under every possible assumption that can be made YES without a doubt i wouldn't put it past a manufacturer to do something that stupid.
i mean lets be real here there are plenty of mobo makers who put the video card right on top of the ram latches or right beside it. and you are forced to remove the video card to remove the ram.
and the placement of the atx plug is a fairly solid spot. meaning it can not easily be moved.
right now as it stands the plug receptacle is in a rather unwelcome location.

i doubt the heatpipe will be hot enough to melt anything but the possibility is definitely there. and its a VERY dangerous possibility.

also knowing how mobo makers do things, and that they either make something very tight, or very easy.. i have a sneaky feeling that you going to have to bend the wires over at a 45-75deg angle to fit it under the heatpipe.

and that many heatpipes truly dont help much. its a novelty that they think we want. use a good copper heatsink with a good low dB fan and it will work better.

i also think this picture is fake. or just a design mach-up.

look at the PWM area. there are no caps or anything but there are solder spots for them.
now look at the NB heasink.
who, and how would they mount a 2nd heatsink radiator on top of that for the heatpipe.
you can clearly see that the heatpipe sink fins are sitting right on top of the exsisting NB heatsink.
the southbridge also looks fake. even though its a black sticker, with what looks like the Gigabyte 'G' emblem, it looks liek the sticker was photochopped on there.

I'm sure Asus has some nice designers and good beta testers (us!). Now their engineers, I have my doubts.
