    Talking bh5 dud king?

bought a stick of 2.5 rated 3200 memory, single sided 256mb for 35€

it looks exactly like bh5 (2 round dots) and is labeled seitec.

when i got the stick and saw it looks exactly like my khx 3500 with bh5 i got really excited, stuck it in my machine and booted straight at 225 2-2-2 with 3.2v...

...and it worked! but when it started loading windows it crashed.
so i though maybe its bh6 and needs more volts? rose the vdimm to 3.3v.... same thing. lowered the sped to 220.... 215....210...200 same thing...

so i thought maybe its ch5 and lowered the latencies to 2-3-3 .... same thing... wont even load windows at 200fsb with 3.3vdimm

so i set the latencies to 2.5-3-3 and tried some fsb speeds... i cant even boot at 205fsb with 3.3v and 2.5-3-3 timings!!!! WTH?

200fsb and its all fine... isnt this a bit odd? oh, great, i just got an error in prime. :\ this must be the bh5 dud king!

now what kind of memory is this? is there some other memory that has those two dots? could 3.2v be too much for the memory already?

Are you sure the chip modules are winbond bh-5 ?? I mean you can read the prints are really winbond made.

I thought Seitec made their own chip. The price 35 euro is bargain for winbond bh-5 u know? And real winbond chip should hit 450DDR easy with 3.2V, or could be more.

nope those are remarked chips... all seitec chips are. seitec doesnt manufacture their own chips... in asia seitec chips became famous after people found out they used bh5 chips, same like twinmos in europe and the usa...

i dont know any other memory manufacturer that uses those 2 dots in the middle of the chip, actually some samsung chips have those marks, but the dots are smaller and more in the center...

Its probably with CH-5 chips, because you cant identify BH-5 chips from CH-5 chips if they have been relabeled, cause they look identical.

well either way its defective and i already contacted seitec for replacement.

the memory is almost a year old, so its def not ch5, there was no ch5 at that time iirc. and it boots with 2-2-2 timings up to 265fsb, never heard of any ch5 that does that kinda tricks...

too bad theres no way to find out wich of the memory chips is defective, so i could unsolder it and replace it with a bh5 chip of my khx. the highest i could boot my khx at was 250 2-2-2 ...

I've had bad BH-5 as well. Just because its generaly knows as the best performing ram, and all does not mean there are 0 defects... Sometime it happens.

Of course the one I had that was DOA, failed at any speed. Even 166mhz 2.5-3-3

Let the RAM run with goldmemory (www.goldmemory.cz) for some test

Start at default timings and clock speeds and if it shows errors, the RAM is defective! I'm pretty sure it's either defective or based on old Winbond BH-75 chips or even worse AH-75 chips.

Yes, indeed I had some sticks here already that had Winbond BH-75 RAM on them and let me tell you that they were not very good. But, I have to tell you though that I didn't test them with high volts. Perhaps they fly at voltages above 3V.
    But honestly I doubt it.

Ha, I was quite sure that this would happen. I had a stick of Seitec PC2700 RAM here some weeks ago and had the same problem. The RAM was defective.
    Same symptoms.

I seem to have got some bad luck when it came to my BH-5 too mate, although to be honest I can't rule out the motherboard, oh wait, maybe I can, I just found myself a gig of BH-6 going for £75.

Hope you get it sorted saaya, I know all about the bad RAM blues.
I've heard it all, I've seen it all, I've done it all. I just don't remember any of it.
