PCI-Express Frequency? WTF is that?

Can someone clarify what to do with PCI-Express Frequency? I've heard that when you overclock, you should raise the value, but I also heard that raising the value too high can damage the card!

So yea, I'm a noob with a P5W DH Deluxe and an e6400. My ram is some decent g.skill (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ.) MY FSB is 400and pci-e frequency is 100. I'm hitting a wall at 420 and I was wondering if it could be due partly by not having my pci-express frequency set high enough... ICH 1.2v, vFSB 1.55v, vMCH 1.65v, vcore 1.45v, the pci thing is at 33 1/3

So how do you calculate what your pci-express frequency should be?


PS: If anyone could clarify how to calculate DRAM Write Recovery Time, I'd be utmost greatfull for that as well...

You can increase the PCI-e frequency to increace video card performance a bit and possibly increase the max OC on your VC, but don't push it about 120, or your SATA drives will probably start to corrupt. I have mine set at 109 at the moment, I think.

Is the DRAM Write Recovery the timing below Tras in BIOS? I have that set to 4.

There can be issues when you push it too high. SOme boards allow the PCIE frequency to be increased seperatley from the Sata clock, the DFI Infinity allows this, so you can get away with 120. Other boards may have both clocks linked in bios, so you have to be more careful. I've never heard of hardware deaths if it's set too high, has anyone else?

I thought as said in the above post that your sata drives may stop working and you may have to reformat your drives to get them running again corruption, lastly your video card display will distort. Basically lockups..

On the P5WDH I'm using PCI-E freq: 110mhz. I found it allowed me to clock a bit higher.

I've got an X1800GTO with a VF1-plus and an 80mm fan on the voltage regulators. I guess I've pretty much hit a wall at 730/730 at 1.45V core and 2.15v mem... I'll try this and let yall know if I can reach higher clocks.

BTW - Voltage regulators never go above 55 core never goes above 65. The combo of a VF1-plus and an 80mm fan is unbelievable.

from what i hear this asus board will adjust it according to my FSB when set to auto... so how do i know what its at? Is there some monitoring software that can tell me how fast its going?

nah that didn't show it... Its whatever, I ran 12 hours straight of orthos beta at 3.2GHz... I'm done with this overclocking sh.t. If it dies, it dies
