Asus P6T owners.....

Hey,

For those of you that have an Asus P6T and haven't updated the BIOS (using original BIOS) I'm wondering if you can try something for me.

I bought a P6T motherboard along with other components for a new Core i7 build, but I'm having trouble getting it to work. When turned on the fans blow full speed, there are no beeps, no display.... nothing. Someone at the Anandtech forums pointed me to this Newegg review:

Cons: Originally installed only 2 sticks of ram and it would not do anything, not even beep. Had to drive about 40 miles just to get 3 sticks of DDR3 RAM and it still would not boot. Moved the RAM to the orange slots and it finally booted. Tried 2 sticks on the orange slots and it would not boot (the manual states that it would)unless I did a BIOS update. I'm curious to see now if it will work with all six slots populated. Will know more when my FEDEX delivers my memory this Monday

I am using dual-channel DDR3 (4GB, 2GBx2) and I am thinking (hoping) this is the problem. But I'm wondering if anyone else with the board can try it out to see if the guy on Newegg is correct (not sure I trust newegg reviews). If that is really the problem I will just buy another DIMM. I haven't heard this mentioned anywhere else but from what I see everyone going Core i7 is going with three DIMMs, so they wouldn't discover the problem even if it does exist....

There is an issue with the motherboard and RAM, the BIOS update i am 99% sure will fix it if you have an issue. I would reccomend picking up some tripple channnel DDR3 memory tho - low voltage and takes full advantage of the x58 platform.

Well the RAM I have is DDR3-1600 CL9 @ 1.5V, so it is pretty good. I was looking to keep costs down as much as possible but I guess I will have to order another DIMM. Is there a thread or something documenting this issue?

For me I don't have this issues.

But OS loading is slower when I connect my SSD to the onboard SAS port as compared to normal SATA port

i can only suggest browsing the asus forums. There is a fair bit of info there. It should not be necessary to populate all 3 memory slots tho.

did you check the manual for ram positionning ?
with two sticks it's A1 & B1 slots (2nd and 4th when counting from socket)

could be a SPD issue...generaly fixed but getting recent memory or updating bios

Pushing reset gets it to work every time though.

I have not have any stability issues while running or with prime regardless of how far I have pushed the overclock on it.

I am hoping a bios update will fix it as well.

What I notice is that, if it does this, I push down my power button for like 2 seconds and repeat until the HD light starts and then it boots fine. I think this seems to be a bug?

same here bro, i am getting the same problem, it occur randomly, sometimes the board wouldnt boot when i switch on my PC, but it does after reset.

its rock stable passing 30 times of LinX and hours of prime for my OC.

I get the same problem on many systems with P6T (Vanilla, SE & Deluxe). They system is rock solid at whatever OC I've set it to but every so often it will give one long, three short beeps, no output on the screen but apparently loads Windows as pressing the power button after giving it enough time to get to Windows will shut it down. It only happens with systems with a 4870x2. BIOS updates haven't fixed it so far.

I have the same issues (cold boot) , only when i have set the memory speed to 2000mhz . My cpu is at 200x21 in bios . So if i choose 1600 ram frequency , motherboard boots every time with no issues.
But , at 2000mhz the mobo can't properly post about 7 out of 10 times . Of course everything is stable (prime , linx ) .
My VGA card is a 295gtx .

Hmmm, perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but why would you even think about using 2 sticks? The whole idea behind the memory for the X58 chipset is much broader bandwidth through triple channel. I truly know of no one that has tried, or wants to use, a dual channel memory solution with any X58 motherboard. Am I missing something?

EDIT: Just looked at the dates and realized how old this thread is...most likely a dead issue.
