    Internal Watercooling in P182

UPDATE: WORKLOG CAN BE FOUND ON PAGE 2.

    Hello everybody,

I'm planning my first watercooling build and it's gonna be done right - the Swiss way. I will only be cooling my CPU, GPU is being cooled by an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1. The case (Antec P182) will be modded so that everything is internal.

First off, here's my list of things that are going to be ordered, unless somebody has objections:

The radiator will be cooled by 2 x Aerocool Turbine 2000s, really silent fans with LEDs - how pretty it's gonna be

    The list of my hardware:

    CPU: E8400 @ 3.85 GHz with 1.40 V - Yes, I know, crappy CPU.
GPU: EVGA 8800 GTS 512 G92 - Getting RMAd but it's gonna be back in action
    RAM: Mushkin XP2-8500 2 x 2 GB
    MB: Gigabyte P35-DS3R Rev 2.1
    Case: Antec P182
    Soundcard: X-Fi Fatal1ty XtremeGamer

As mentioned, everything will be internal. This means that I have to do some modding to the case and I'm planning to make 2 windows - one in the motherboard area and one by the radiator at the bottom. I've planned it out using two cereal packets that I've glued together and cut holes in. I was out of other materials at the time, don't worry, the final result will look professional (hopefully) and all the cables will be moved away.

The pump will be put in the 5.25" bay area and the radiator at the bottom.

Any suggestions? I'm eager to get this started but I will not rush things - I firmly believe that he who buys cheaply buys more than once.

Thanks, looking forward to the replies.

If you don't want to use a res, you could always go with a T-line.

I've been modding my P182 and adding watercooling. Getting close to finish now and i must say it's looking good. went with the rad outside though. I'm interested in seeing the outcome of your project. Subscribed!

Btw I'd suggest spending the extra few bucks and getting the MC-TDX instead of the regular tdx

I forgot to ask about the res, any suggestions? It's going above the pump, on top of the DVD drive. I have heard that 5.25" bay reservoirs can be loud so I am looking for something else, somethign small.

Thanks, I'll get the other block then. I simply don't want stuff hanging off my case.

I am only cooling the CPU so I don't think that I will need a stronger pump. Also, the block is, as far as I know, not a high-restriction block, meaning I don't need a nuclear warhead propelling the water through the loop.

As far as a res I have the MCRES-MICRO It's about 2 and 1/2 cd-rom drives tall to give you an idea on height. If you're not set on having your res in the bays with the pump you could always put it somewhere to display it more.

You're better off with the MC-TDX since it's made for multicore cpu's. You'll be happier with the performance. Although I can't say for sure if that pump will be enough (although i think it should be) I think it. The mc-tdx from what i have read is pretty low-restriction.

The P180/P182 isn't an easy case for watercooling. You can look for ideas in the P180 case gallery @ hardforum.

Thanks for the tip, I never saw that thread on Hardforum. They have some good ideas and all of them seem to do something different to what I'm about to try - which is good.

That's quite extreme, I'm trying my best not to destroy some of the case's features, but I'm sure that works well. I'm also doing my best to make it look like it could have come stock like this, when I'm done modding.

I'm not set for anything as such, I will be using clear water though and I think the reservoir looks the best when it's tucked into some corner somewhere, lit up by some lights perhaps, but not stealing the show. That's why I've been looking a bit at bay reservoirs. But thanks for the height comparison, don't think that'll fit in mine.

Do reservoirs have to be a certain size to help at all? I found this small cute thing : http://www.aquatuning.de/product_inf...Barebones.html

That would fit almost anywhere, question is if it's a waste of money.

The pump should be fine, according to the sticky where they have pump recommendations. At least I think it's this pump that they are talking about.

I really like the look of black insides of cases, maybe that'll become a project one day.

I'm probably going to order the parts this week, have three more physics papers for my finals and then I'm done with school forever I'll start modifying the case on Thursday and I'll keep a worklog if anybody is interested.

Those cases are a pain to water cool, but they do have great features for Air Cooling.

Nice side panel too. Love the Tape and Cardboard look.

I agree, good stuff for air cooling, but the holes at the back for tubing are just an excuse to make it seem more watercooling friendly. And thanks for the kind words about my side panel, shows what else cereal packets are useful for.

I'm ordering tomorrow I think. Any word on the reservoir? Is this thing useless: http://www.aquatuning.de/product_inf...Barebones.html ?

i think i would have the rad in the roof a 120.2 grill fits on the top of mine (in front of the rear top fan) and have a alphacool plexi top + res in the hd bay. i think that'll keep everything nice and tidy.
But i'd defo buy a Fuzion - but i'm bias, lol

I have mine on top, but because I used a triple I could not put the rad inside. A double like that doesn't seem like it would be a problem. It wold just take up more drive bays inside.

The fuzion is fairly close in performance to the MC-TDX. The main difference that I've seen is the MC-TDX is a lot less restricting

@ Solidsnake666 - sweet you have the special edition too
I have one in my bedroom with an AMD X2 5200, ASUS M2N32 SLI Deluxe, EVGA SC 7950 GX2, 4GB XMS26400. So when i'm up there i'm always looking at it, thinking of ways to hack it up, lol
Though the door broke within the first couple of hours - big thumbs up to Antec - they got a new door to me with in 3 days (i emailed them for the last time on the friday and the door was here on the tuesday) i was well impressed with their customer service!
I bought a holesaw to do my Akasa Eclipse's - my P182 is up for the chop soon.

As for DD i was put off by the quality of the DD 8800GTX block i bought, the copper didn't look finished - it never even got installed. So now i steer clear - EK or D-Tek for me, just got a D-Tek Fuzion v2 for my new akasa eclipse build, i can't wait to test it out

It's actually not the Special Edition P182. I was thinking about getting it but decided on the regular gun metal P182.

As for danger den I've never gotten a bad block from them. Although a friend of mine got one with a missing gasket and they had a new block to him the next day. I don't have a problem with them.

Haven't looked into the Fuzion v2yet. I'd like to see how that performs.

i think i need to get my eyes checked again, lol
The DD thing - i was tempted to try one of the new blocks, but i'd already bought 4 Fuzions for my systems.
The 8800GTX block from DD the copper was finished to the same standard as their cpu blocks or EKs 8800GTX blocks, but i would like to do a back 2 back comparision myself of the fuzion and the TDX-MC
