ANYONE have a HD or DVD connected to Marvell SATA on Bad Axe 2 ?

Is there anyone out there using the Marvell SATA connectors on the Intel Bad Axe 2?

If so, could you pull up the "Power State Mappings" for a device connected connected to the Marvell controller and tell me if it looks like this:

Does S3 Standby work properly on your system?

I have a couple seagate SATA HDs and an ASUS SATA DVD burner on the Marvell. Power state looks like what you posted for all of those devices. Sorry I don't use S3, haven't tried it.

    Scottk,

    Could you try S3 Suspend?
    It's a quick test.

    Start Menu->Turn Of Computer->Standby

If your computer fans turn off, then your BIOS is set for S3 standby.
If your computer fans do not turn off, then your BIOS is set for S1 standby.
In which case, if you don't mind switching Standby to S3 in BIOS, repeat again.

What you are looking for is after you go into Standby, wait 10s, then resume the computer buy moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard.

If you have closed programs before going into Standby, try opening them up. Try IE or some other programs and see if your system appears to work properly.

    Rambunctious,
Yes, I also had the same problems with my SATA burner on the Marvell Ports.

ubiquityman, I set S3 in BIOS, then did a few tests...

The machine will always go into standby and wake up successfully one time. Apps run fine after the wake up.

If I try to put it into standby a 2nd time, the machine hangs on the "Preparing to stand by" screen. I need to hit reset to reboot.

Tried this several times, same thing happens.

    scottk,

Thanks for testing. That's the sort of behavior I'm seeing too.

If you try to use your machine for a while after it comes out of standby, you will probably find that some applications no longer work.
While the machine looks happy after resuming, in reality, it's is not totally stable.

Looks like the BIOS 2745 might address some S3 + Marvell issues

It's supposed to fix the problem according to the readme, but it doesn't.
When I flash the latest version (2745), my machine will not boot.

It goes into endless resets during post. The activity lights on my two IDE CDROM drives connected to the ATA port flash endlessly as the mobo reset every 5s or so.

While it's true that there are problems with burning DVDs on writers connected to the marvell chipset, this Standby problem affects hard drives in the same way.
