Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-L voltage mod or lack there of?

All the mods so far that i have seen are showing leg 6 of the usual 8 pin IC connected to a ground via a variable resistor. i have done mods similar to this with my radeons but I have never done a vdimm mod to a motherboard yet. I get a max of 2.9v(set at 2.8V in bios) on the GA-8IPE1000-L(i865).

The reason why I am hesitant is because the similar mobo is the GA-8IK1100(i875) and the vdimm mod for that mobo is different but using the same IC as my mobo. At the same time though I know there is more than 1 way to skin a cat Check the pic below to see what I mean.

Here is the same type of mod on the anr50 using leg 6 or FB of the IC.

    Pic of 8 leg IC.

Mod attached to ground via 2k VR.

Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Since the chip is in the same area on the 865 and 875 boards you describe, it will still be PIN 6 on both.... just make sure you got the right pin before soldering.

You can check with a multimeter for easier places to solder too.

If you start off with enough resistance, you probably wont kill anything even if you solder to an incorrect pin. Done that a few times...nothing heppens

    good luck

If anyone is interested this mod works. I simply am using smd grabbers right now 10k pot one one pin to leg 6 and the other to a ground. My BH5 is running at 3.17v right now just fine. Doesn't seem to like much higher though. Going from 3.31v to 3.38 made it more unstable. I backed it down to 3.17 and it seems to be about the sweat spot. I could do more maybe but I think I am pushing my processor too much too. It doesn't seem to like voltages above 1.52v. This is a 2.4C @ 3.4GHz 5:4 memory cas2225 with some pat settings.

It has been along time since I did this. I think you can measure on a mosfet but I am not sure. You just have to poke around

Here is the tutorial I made for it.
