Lian Li PC-V1000......V1000Plus.....V1000PlusII

Going to buy one of these, but, what exactly is the difference in the V1000, V1000 Plus and V1000 PlusII?

Even on Lian Li's site it is very vague what the difference is exactly and I'm wondering if the $30 gap from plain V1000 to the Plus II is worth it? The gap between plain V1000 and the Plus model is only around $10 but the Plus II is quite a lot.............and for what.......I'm not sure!

cooling and some improvements in design nothing else.. i think the best bet is the plus if you dont want to pay the extra 20

Well, I'm actually just doing this to find out about the Lian Li cases. I'll be switching my system which now resides in a P180B into this case. Another concern I just thought about is whether my Tuniq Tower H/S Fan will fit inside the V1000...............

The rest of my system consists of:

The plus just has the fan cover for the PSU, the VGA area fan blower, and a panel to divert air towards your exhaust fan. The plus II basically has those elements, but changes the design of the VGA blower. If you have WC in that case, the VGA area, especially if you setup an SLI loop, will be too cramped for that panel to even be used. I have the v2000 plus, and there was no room for that blower, per their design. I drilled holes, and moved it to the front of the VGA area, blowing across the area, maintaining airflow.

I realize that this thread is more than a month old, but IMO the responses you got are pretty vague. IMO the $30.00 is definitely worth it. I suppose you already know that the VXXX designs' use an inverted (upsidedown) motherboard layout with the interiors segregated into three distinct areas: (1) Main Compartment, (2) Hard Drive, and (3) PSU. That said, I'll try to explain the differences a little more clearly:

The V1000 uses only two 120mm fans - one as a front intake and the other as an exhaust. The front intake blows air directly over the hard drives which are mounted in the lowermost section of the case. Great for HD cooling, but the problem is that the rest of the case is starved for cool air unless you use some other method of drawing cool air in such as this: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...oducts_id=4153. The rear 120mm exhaust is mounted in the lowermost section of the main compartment directly adjacent to where the CPU is, so it does a great job of exhausting the heated air drawn off of the CPU. Because of were it is located, the rear 120mm fan also pulls a small amount of air across the mid-section of the motherboard. However, I have found that warm air can still collect at the top of the V1000 (and so did Lian Li) unless you mod the case to exhaust the air at the top of the case. Hence the arrival of the V1000 Plus.

The V1000 Plus adds an additional 120mm rear fan to supplement the cooling of the standard V1000. This third 120mm fan is a scroll-type blower fan that is mounted at the rear of the case in the top-right corner. It is designed to suck air out of the case. It is mounted using four (4) screws inserted through some of the existing perforations on the rear panel. It is important to note that in the V1000 Plus Lian Li has reversed the airflow direction of the "original" 120mm rear exhaust to turn it into an intake fan for the main compartment, and provides a large aluminum CPU duct to direct air directly over the CPU's HSF. Depending upon the size/model of HSF you use, the CPU duct may or may not fit. Also, in my experience scroll-type fans tend to be less efficient and more noisy than equivalent size straight-through design fans. Hence, the V1000 Plus II was born.

The V1000 Plus II replaces the (120mm) rear exhausting scroll-type blower unit with a 120mm straight-through side exhausting unit that blows air out through a screened rectangular cutout in the Plus II side panel. It is perfectly positioned to draw air away from the videocard(s) near the top of the case. You could also reverse the airflow of the side fan to blow over the videocard(s) but I think you would still have the warm air "festering" up there. The Plus II still uses the rear 120mm intake and CPU duct as the V1000 Plus design.

Personally, I would rather use both (120mm) rears as exhaust. I just converted my V1000 to the V1000 Plus II with parts I bought from Performance- PCS.com. I bought the V1000 Plus II Side Panel ($44.95 US) and added the Plus II 120mm Fan & Bracket assembly/Fan Duct Kit for another $25.00. I didn't use the CPU Duct, so I could have saved $8.00 since Performance-PCS.com sell the Plus II Fan & Bracket assembly for $17.95. I also bought the Mesh Bay Covers ($9.95) http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...oducts_id=3904 (perforated like the front and rear) to match the case and to allow air to be drawn into the main compartment more easily. Seems to work pretty well and looks cool too. I might have gone with the Scythe KAMA Bay but I have two optical drives.
