Ideas for more juice on AOpen AK89Max?

Hello! First post here, although I have lurked for awhile.

AK89Max has maximum voltages of 1.55v and 2.8vdimm. I can easilly run my A64 3200+ @ 10x230 with low temps on air, but I need more juice to go higher. I am thinking this will either take a BIOS hack and/or voltage mod. Unfortunately, this board isn't out there in force, and I don't know how to hack a BIOS or figure out a voltage mod (always amazed at how quickly some of you figure out those voltage mods).

Any ideas or tips orther than buy the Shuttle? Heh heh. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Here's a shot of the board.

    Vdimm & Vbt:

    closer look:

Remove the default 0ohm SMDs and replace w/ 10ohm-20ohm (red circle). Then solder a 1k VRs like in the pic (red and black wires) and ground it (green wire).
Be careful when adjusting Vbt - you dont want to set it too high - Vdimm at 3.3V wont hurt anything but Vbt at 3.3V is lethal.
Red spot for Vdimm, Blue for Vbt - or the other way round - sorry can't remember
Test it at stock volts and make sure you find the correct reading point for each voltage.

    Vcore:

    closer look:

    50k VR to GND.

    Dang Macci,

    You are the man

So what kind of results are you getting with this particular mobo? Better than the K8N Pro/K8NNXP?

Thanks macci, very cool! I'll give that a go as soon as I can get the parts and have enough confidence that I am translating your mod into enough understanding of just what to do. This will be my first board mod.

I tested it couple weeks ago and it was a nice board.
Its a bit faster than K8N/K8N Pro w/ default BIOS in 1:1 and 6:5 mode and runs the FSB up to 355MHz w/ my equipment (I got 360 w/ K8N Pro).
There is no '0.4V' Dimm drop like on unmodded K8N (so very high Vdimm is possible) but the Vcore mod will need another resistor as it seems to limit the Vcore to around 1.7V.

Yep, thats exactlly how I did the mods on the AK89 as well. Well, pretty much anyway, I didnt use the added SMD resistor....just soldered the VR between the solder pads after removing the stock SMD resistor.

BTW, someone clear this up for me:

I hear people talking Vbt = Vdd (NB), and others saying Vbt = Vtt (1/2 Vdimm).

    Which is it.

From the data sheet on W83304D, the pin modded here is #17 which is Vtt_SEN and is exactlly 1/2 Vdimm before mod.

A little clarity on this before people get mixed up in the lingo.

I know that Vbt = Vtt for pretty much every mod I have done, and the terms are interchangeable, but I continue to hear people saying Vbt = Vdd.

gimp ole chum, your AK89 Max is modded and waiting on shipping on Monday.

I am not the HellFire that writes bios files. I work strictly on voltage modifications.

Hell-Fire could you post a picture there?

Isnt there any other way to do the vdimm?
