    Finished modding my 9600 Pro

As some of you have seen earlier, I added a fdd power connector to my 9600 pro, and just now, I finished doing vmem and vgpu mods to it, and I didn't kill my card. I have not tested them yet, but alone, the fdd connector does nothing for me. I also added some OCZ BGA ram sinks to the card. The mods are kind of messy, I was using wire from an old IDE cable and kept melting the insulation.

Doesn't look that messy at all. Good luck with the overclock.

yeah, it looks nice, I'd suggest maybe using some hot glue to make sure they don't come off. I'd always get pissed off if something came off and I'd have to redo it all.

Looks nice and clean. Dont expect too much from the Vddr mod. It doesnt really help on most 9600s.

I suggest you to do the Vref mod. Check page 2 of this thread for further information (its often called vddq mod there). Youll also find the mod on Unoid Homepage.

Any idea if the vddq on Unoid's page works on the BBA 9600 Pro? The card that has it is a Sapphire Fireblade. With vgpu at 1.38v, I get 489 core with stock cooling, I might put my silencer rev.3 back on, or rig up a heatsink I have with a 50mm 17cfm sunon, and maybe eventually get water, either brass top Maze4 GPU or Fusion. I know what you mean about the mods coming off, I had to redo my vdd mod for my AN7 at the same time I did these mods because it came off when I took my mobo out of the case.

when you added the floppy connector, im curious if that card has ALL the caps and resistors as the higher end 9600's do?

might help if you added them to clean up the extra power given.

I think so, but if you can check, that would be great. Here is the front, the back is in the first photo.

looks like all the main ones are there.. what you should do is get a card that has the floppy and conpare the two, and see what is different.

I looked at Unoids page about doing the mod and can't see anything that is missing. I just realized that the fdd plug is not in right now, so I don't know if it helps after doing the mods. I can't afford a new card, so I can't do that to check. This card is about 1.5 years old. Any idea if the core produces enough heat that watercooling it will give lower temps than good air, and if not, what kind of air should I be looking at?

I think the core doesn´t produce so much heat, only take a look at the 9600XT tock cooler... If you want to by a new cooler, take the Zalman VF-700... I want to do the vmods on my 9600XT again, because the first time i did, the card didn´t want to work after a few days...

edit: How have You fixed the vr´s on the Card?

The vr's are superglued on, when I tried hotgluing the vr on my PCI slot for my vdd mod, it came off, so I decided that if it died, I would just upgrade. Anyone have a good link for a nice copper heatsink, like a 1u or something that I can mod onto this card, I don't really like the VGA Silencer I have, and water on the GPU won't happen for a while.

I have a dynatron 1u heatsink on mine. Here's 3 that might be good.

This isn't a 1u, but it would def. cool nicely

Same one but with a bigger fan

Here's the one that I have

On the 9700 Pro, there's an smd cap to the left of the core, so that beveled edge helps by not touching it. Not sure if you'd need that for a 9600.

I don´t want a Silencer, too. But the Zalman VF-700 is very nice.

yes that Zalman is very nice. i think even abit overkill but whatever. watercooling will gain you ambient temps id think but that Zalman would do the same. going below ambient iswhen these cards really shine. water+pelt would do 700+mhz 24/7 no sweat.

I haven't done any Vddq volt mods. Therefore I can't provide much info besides what another member did. So bios = worthless, FDD = prett ymuch wrothless. and Vmem = worthless

This is what I have found, but I havn't tried any different bios. My mem is 2.8 Samsung, and didn't OC any higher with the mod. Vgpu does help me, but I want better cooling before I raise it any more. I have a bunch of Pal 14 Alpha heatsinks that I could mod and attach a fan to, or an aluminum hsf off an old celeron 450 that takes 50mm fans, would that be significantly worse than a copper hsf like linked above?
