    Let's recap:
939 will be replacement for 940, right?
Dual channel, FX chips running regular DDR, starting at fx-53 (2.4gHz) and going to 2.6ghz fx-55...
But no change to 09nM right??

09nM will replace 013nM later this year i think..

and yes the new cpu's will come end of april and there will only 10.000 copies of them so they will be quite expensive..

btw amd didn't confirm this yet...

S939 will be the desktop standard. 940 will stay around for Opteron. 90nm will become available in Q3 sometime. The difference between FX and standard A64s will now be the size of cache. The standards will carry the 512kb while the FX will have the big 1mb. Both will be dual channel and support any type of DDR. They WILL NOT be pin compatible with s940 boards.

    Hope that clears everything up.

Glad I sold my Socket 940 Athlon 64 FX system.

I will build a new system iwth the Athlon 64 FX (Socket 939) CPU in May 2004. I am sure it will release in the shops by then.

For now I am happy with the Prescott 3.2Ghz at 4.2Ghz.

    where did you see that?
last i've seen - like yesterday or day before - was that is was supposed to be released around end of march, but has been postponed for 1 month making it end of april (bad enough already). and the 90nm is scheduled for h2/04 which could mean anything from jul-dec.

    I heard mid-late April?

I think the FX-57 will utilise 90nm if not that the FX-61 (which is to be released Q1 05).

AMD didn't paper launch the earlier two A64 processors. Announced on Sept 23rd, in stores later that week.

Yes but if they only launch with 10000 world wide... that will be next to a paper launch wont it?

10,000 sounds like a magical number conjured out of thin air and then leaked out to The Inquirer.

    Did some research...

    Go here
    http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1947

Scroll to about midway. That 3400+ due in Q2 looks nice

I think 939 and LGA775 are due out April May with the Newcastle and Prescott chips respectivly...

then in Q3 AMD goes 90nm with Winchester and San Deigo and Intel released Tejas...

Also the April / May 939 and 775's should have DDR-2 and PCI-X (for graphics and PCI replacement). the diff is that INtel won't support AGP but AMD will.. they both plan to support PCI if I remmeber right/....
