    Neo2 Platinum cap mod

    New ram arrived today, so I did some work on my neo2 platinum.

    The capacitors on the output side of the vcore mosfets were not soldered in very well on my board, they had about an 8 degree tilt to them since one leg was soldered in way farther than the other. I got them all straightened out pretty much, but didnt have any spare caps to add to them...

    Side effect?

    I added 100mhz to my cpu's top speed (0444 cbbhd winchester) (was 2600mhz @ 1.65v load 1.61v idle before, now running 2700mhz @ 1.69v load 1.64v idle).

    Thats pretty good for just straightening out the capacitors if you ask me

    now to get my 2x512 tccd to play nice past ~265mhz...

    Why'd that happen? I know the shorter the lead the better, but 1mm diff. or so couldn't have caused a 100mhz increase.

    in theory it shouldnt, unless the design of the neo2 really is that bad (the board hasnt pleased me ).

    Just took a look at mine, and you are right, mine are bent all over the place and you can even tell on the back of the mobo cause one leg is higher than the other, so I figure I'll try doing this too. How did you do it, just heat up the back of each leg from the back of the motherboard and push it in further from the front? What wattage iron did you use? I'd think kinda high (compared to normal vmods), mines a 15w so I might have to pickup a 30w or so.

    Well I picked up a dual 150/230 watt soldering gun from radioshack and I tried taking some caps off an nf7-s and couldn't get em to budge, this should be enough heat right? Maybe I'm just doing something wrong, any suggestions?

    Well I tried taking some caps off a dead 9700 pro cause I don't care if I mess someting up it's dead, and I got 2 off, but I had to hold the gun on there for about a minuite and it heated up the pcb and the ramchip nearby was pretty warm, is this gonna be risking damaging something if I do this?

    well I cleaned the tip and tinned it really good (by clean I mean sanded it down till it was shiney again) and tried on a old p2 mobo and took out all the caps, didn't take too long, but in the end I got bits of pcb melted all over it lol

    Shouldn't be as hard to push the caps in further tho.
