I did...seems "smoother" Tho I didn't screw with the reg and still don't think ya should ;-)
What happens if you install the driver and/or hotfix etc in a different order?
Also how can you remove the hotfix if you wanted to install them from scratch?
If I swap CPU's frequently from single core to dual core should I install this hotfix? Will I need to un-install if I swap from dual core 170 to single core 146?
.... and what's the best way to backup the registry before doing this?
thanks!

TO remove the hotfix just follow these steps.
1 - uninstall the hotfix, go into ad/remove programs, click on show updates and remove update numbered KB896256
2 - reverse the registry entrie
3 - uninstall the drivers
4 - go into your boot.ini and remove /usepmtimer
Thanks GAR, my machine still freezes or restarts after installing all the fixes so I though I might remove them all aside from the AMD drivers and see how it goes. Then if it still freezes I'll install them in order.
I never dl'ed the hot fix or any of that crap and had a problem with cs which i found to be funny since cs:s runs smooth as butter, after about 2 hours of looking threw crap that wanted me to install stuff etc, (im not a fan of) i noticed when u go to task manager there is an affinity thing on the bottom, curious (went from 2.26 b4 and wasnt there, its a set the prog to what core, simply whenever u run it b4 u go into a game or anything uncheck one of the cores, game runs fast and fine now no patch or anything needed.
HOW TO FIX::::
CLT ALT DEL
go to HL.exe right click
SET AFFINITY
UNCHECK ONE OF THE CORES
all better

I contacted MS, and there is no hotfix for x64, but they promised to check if there was one on the way.
Note to WinXP SP1 users: None of this works with SP1. The hotfix and AMD's drivers won't install unless you have SP2.
This kinda sucks, cause I have some issues atm moment, and there's really no way for me to fix it. Right after a reboot, the system is perfectly fine. But after about 1 hour or so, things stutter. Even like animated gifs stutter. Anyone know a way to fix it for SP1 users? Only way to fix the stuttering atm is to set the affinity to 1 core, which is pretty annoying.
Hmmmm.....the only way to really fix it, is to upgrade to sp2.Originally Posted by Silver Fox

setting the affinity to a certain core has been said before, this fix allows you to game without crashes, and you dont need to set affinity manually.Originally Posted by palehorse
