These guys used a poly toped maze3 water block as a evaporator.

I didn't even think those water blocks could withstand 75psi without leaking of fracturing. Is it just me or is that nutz?

berkut posted this before i think
whats weird is that theres no condensation on teh evap, the evap must not be that cold
can you see the light? is it shining too bright? can you see the light at the end of the tunnel, i know i do, i know its true.
I think it's more for demonstration that anything else. Pretty cool to watch.
indeed, its really interesting, but i did expected a (good quality ) water block could sure stand this pressure.
dual ... quad ... hexal ... octal ... hexadecal?
Could be like this, they only showed it running, so you start the compressor with very little refrigerant, evap side goes into vacuum, then you slowly charge the system while it is running, the evap side will always be in vaccuum or very small pressure until you turn off the system, then maybe the evap starts whistling as the pressure pushes the gas out pass the oring.
maze3s are pressure tested to 85psi from the factory so it should be fine.
just add a expansion tank...
im more interested - how did they seal the copper-plexy connection
and i believe they would stand even a higher pressure, i mean, a plastic bottle stands ~15 Bar if i remember correct.Originally Posted by Cossey
Im also interested in more, damn, if i would have a water cooler anywhere here i would build something like this soon, looks damn cool

it looks like a rubber/viton/any-other-gasket-material gasket
AFAIK this evap was build by someone from the Netherlands, but i'm not sure. I've seen this one in an other topic. I suppose the seal is just the original maze rubber sealing.
[Edit] I've seen a little movie of this, you can see the liquid gass flow.
the o-rings would fail first but with a double o ring it might be good for 150psi so well above static charge.Originally Posted by Sidewinder
that video is made by Haeg, a dutch refrigeration engineer. The evap is -42 *C you can watch some more pics here(unfortunaly for you guys in dutch): http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/...essages/876745
It looks like the acrylic top is quite a bit thicker than the original. that and some extra torque might make it hold more pressure...
yeah, that's got an extra-thick top. very cool video though.
