    Should Futuremark retire 3dmark2001SE ??

Hey guys, this poll corresponds to OPP's thread here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=56115 so basically the topic is on whether 3d01 should stay or not.

Pls feel free to vote any way you want and NO the third choice is NOT a "maybe" lol, its actually a pretty good suggestion from Charlie.

A much more intense overall system benchmark is the way to go. If it's not on Futuremark's schedule, and they remove support, I'll keep using 01, simply not with the ORB.

We can create our own LIST of the higher marks but yeah it wouldnt be easy. And Kunaak alone cant check to see if ALL of the thousands benchie screenshots are admissable, etc.

I think most would agree that 2001se has lived it's life and should probably be let go.

The only problem is we just don't think Futuremark will be able to deliver anything better. Thus bencher's are reluctant to let go of it...

Its old DX8 stuff. Although I'm not too happy with 03 and 05, 01 is still lived passed its usefulness. Its a lot like running the Quake3 timedemo now.

NO, it's the only one I get better than 5k with, lol

honestly though it doesn't really reflect any games currently being developed, but it is the most widly known, and most focoused on, so quoting your 3dmark01 score means more to more people than quoting your 03 or 05 score.
Microsoft's homepage can be found at: thesource-dot-ofallevil-dot-com - interesting, no?

Think of something witty and imagine it here.

It needs to be replaced by a bench that tests the gfx, cpu and mem rather than just the graphics. People with uber graphics cards could easily post top notch scores, with crappy cpu's and memory.

Maybe... o_0 if Cinema4D releases 3d animations that ACTUALLY look even a little good when ur looping them over and over again gfx in cinebench 2003 are horrible except for the test where render that medieval image with guy under the bridge thing.

Like most I would like to see a quality replacement...We all know '01 so well. Lobby high is a good way to see if your extra bandwidth did anything, nature looped is my GPU stress test run about 25 times to see if its stable, and car low for CPU. I still like it but a DX9 version would be nice. I don't run my DFI on the web anyways so I don't post scores and I don't use em as an extension of my _____ but I do use it to test my OCs. 05...I don't really like but '03 is pretty good for heating up my GC, though not as good as..... the rthdsl or whatever its name is .

I dont think FM will replace 2k1 with another cpu/gpu/mem bench. Because it would kill 3dmark03, and 3dmark05. They invested too much in those benchmarks already to abandon it so quickly. I just think 2k1 will be retired thats it. We can still bench and use it, but it will no longer be supported. Like the 3dmark2000.

Yes, unless they revamp it towards nvidia cards and make it less cpu and more towards both

I'm thinking 3dmark2006 which has a girl who strips off rendered with 2 million polygons ( if it was good enough for 3dmark 99...)

As well as marks awarded for fps it also has a biometric function where it measures heartbeat and bloodflow to various parts of the body. It also lasts for 5 minutes so all those benchers under 20 have no chance

    Regards

    Andy

I dunno, 05 was quick enough in taking all those amazing scores from 03 and transforming them into two digit fps so I'm not too eager to see an R520 get like 20fps in 3dmark2007/6 etc.

And I seriously dont think adult 3d animation would be used by Futuremark because they loop the bench at trade shows and product launches, not to mention it would require a 21+ requirement to download it which would only alienate younger audiences.

LOL i scrolled back up to see who suggested it and then I see OMG ZAKALWE...

Spending too much time "alone" in the shed are we ? LOL

Seriously though. If we followed the "save 3D01" sentiment to its logical end, we'd also have to bring back 3D99 too. It was a full system measure as well.....Not too mention cool as hell (it was close to 3D01 in style and the music was just awesome). But, that doesn't mean its useful today.

But...*sigh*...I sort of miss the old Mad Onion days
