... I was hoping to be finished by now, but then suddenly the board worked out how to run memory over DDR3-2500 in 3DMark11 . So, instead of being able to put the board away, I will now need another session to see if I can go up in memory frequency and get the score to scale even more ...
Previous 3DM11 run: 11.4K physics at 6930/3780/1050
First 3DM11 run: 11.5K physics at 6720/3520/1067
Last 3DM11 run: 12.2k physics at 6794/3476/1264
Then the PSU started a nice fireshow and the session could not be continued ...
CPU could boot at 6920 1.86V in OS.
990FXA-UD7 is a really solid board if you work out the tricks. I'm using F5 bios and it's good for me to bench. Some tricks:
- always check if you have all memory addressed in POST (sometimes 1 dimm, low performance but cpuz says dual channel)
- stable htt ~ 315MHz; above that it's mostly losing one dimm
- don't use xtreme LLC, but only highest or high!
- above 6500mhz, the when saving settings in bios, the screen will freeze. Just press reset yourself and the settings will be applied
- need 2t for high frequencies.
- after cmos clear, start at 250HTT and go up in steps (275-300-315); otherwise oc might fail.
- after hard crash, debug might show 88. On other boards that means CPU dead, but with 990FXA-UD7 it means "shutdown PSU". After complete shutdown of PSU, the system will boot up again perfectly.
Maybe next run with HD7970 and not 580.
See ya!
