Thinking about upgrading to a FX8150 on a budget. Could I get by using my OCZ Reaper 2X2 1600 7-7-7-24 1.9V kit?

8GB of the same MHz is dirt cheap now days so it shouldnt be that big a deal if you are doing an upgrade anyway
As for if you can use it, Im not sure but I bet one of the people who are the real experts in memory can tell you. The problem I would be worried about is the really high voltage difference between that and the mem controller. Im pretty sure it was found to be a problem and that the memory controller could "pop" if the RAM is set too high compared to the controller.

Old Micron stuff works like crap on AMD K12/K14/K15 so getting something newer will be a good idea.
do not buy a BD they suck, if you want amd get a nice thulban, they are cheap and better in every way, or i would look to getting intel 1155/1156 even if you have to go used.
the second gen mircron works ok as dose samsung hcl, the 1st gen micron needs like 2.05V so that kinda sucks on any newer platform.

I know Intel is way better . P2 x6 on Ebay is over priced for a used cpu. The FX8150 would be a nice upgrade vs my failing p2 720be. The imc was garbage from day one.
affter looking i had no idea that they were priced so high. if you post around in the for sale (here or other places) i would bet that you can get a chip for around $100. i would also try calling local shops (they normally have some old stock that they will part with for a reasonable price) or more obscure online shops.
what is your budget i bet you could find something better than the bd, and do you have a board that works with the bd properly.

if you donate you get the for sale section, there is nothing in there now though but if you post a WTB you may find something. i would also check the [H] and techpowerup forums. tigerdirect just had the 3570k for $200 that would put you at about $325 for a board and cpu so i would just watch for a sale and do that since you need both.

I'll be posting an 8150 (4.8 stable on water, games at 5 all day) in the FS section pretty soon.
Not sure if I will add my Crosshair V Formula but it is a great possibility.
Might be a few days before I get around to deciding and selling.

and grab a bulldozer FX-8150
have my FX-8120 @ 4.5ghz stable though conservative on air cooling...yur gonna need more skills than i have or water cooling to reach any higher
its good fun playing with it, no one can argue that

amd is more fun that the current intel since you can change the base clock at will, but i could not see going amd right now if you need a new cpu and MB.
@tbone8ty, what cooler at you using, that should be over 200W to get that high right? or are the latter steppings much better than the launch at power consumption

dude power consumption is retarded lol i dont even wanna look hehe
have a NZXT havik 140, which i lapped cause it was bowed, definitely hits a barrier if i push any farther than 4.5-4.6ghz just gets to hot on load

I think a used 1100t from ebay and new memory will hold me over for now. When AMD releases the new 8350 I will build a second rig , I need more crunchers to help fight child hood cancer. Thanks for the help .
Sounds good.
With the 1100T - try to keep DDR3 voltage under 1.85v with the 1100T. I would recommend 1.8v with that kit, hopefully it still does 1600 7-7-7-24 at 1.8v
It should. If not then just lax to 8-8-7.

I never could run them at 1600 speeds with my 720be regardless of timings. But 1500 @ 6-6-6-18 1t worked for a long time.
