SourceDespite earlier rumors, AMD plans to launch its first 28 nm GPUs during 2011. Sources have said that AMD is planning to launch these GPUs during the first week of December, with one source specifying 6 December. Further details are not yet known – this could be a mobile or desktop release, and could be using VLIW4 (Very Long Instruction Word 4) or “NextGen” computing architecture.
Other sources have claimed that this will be a so-called paper launch, with mass production and shipping happening in early 2012. Small batches of these GPUs will probably be manufactured this year for OEM qualification and possibly media samples for early performance testing and review. Jonathan Horne
