Cooler is a rotary single stage, a big sucker (nearly 80 pounds), built for holding -30+ @ 300w. When benching PI temps never really went above -45C, generally around -47 or so on a 32m. I dont bench CPU intensive benches at 1.61v, too risky to degrade this nice CPU.

Benching SS over water has 2 advantages
    1) Temps are kept in check so I dont get instability from hi temps. I could move from 5.6 on 32m to 5.65.
    2) I dont know if this is even true or possible but I like to use SS over water because I think a cold overvolted chip will last longer than a very hot overvolted chip.

I should also add that I had no issues with running the chip under cold. I just start in BIOS for a few mins while cooler drops to -50.

Small update. I managed to squeeze a few more Mhz out of this chip for 32m. Time still slow, need some memory, this is the best this bbse can do. Working on 3d now

Spent some time on 57x and wasnt able to get into Windows, similar to 55x. I guess the sweet spot on this chip is 56x and for vcore 1.58v LL2 is optimal. Good chip, I hope to keep it alive for a while
very interesting - I could run all multipliers as long as I was below 5590 MHZ. Seems chips are different there also.
very nice work 5.7+ is quite a number on Sandy Sub 6 min 32m is piece of cake with this nice cpu Have fun tweaking

I'v tested 3 L040B165, two of them are average, one is good. A friend has a L040B165 with max 45 mp, so thers really bad ones out there too.

    CPU is here:

I have 3 versions of XP installed actually and 32m is slower on all 3 for some reason. I really dont get why other than W7 is on a SSD and the XP partitions are not but really that is far fetched. 1m is super fast and 32m is slow in XP in OS that I have used for years in the past and have proven to be the best for 32m. For example the exact same run on my fastest XP install is 5-6 seconds slower. That is a 100% optimized OS, copy waza, CDT, hi priority, full reg tweaks, nothing else installed but video drivers, etc. I will figure it out though, I may have to move my steam folder from my other SSD partition and try an XP install there.

Could also just be that W7 SP1 is fast for PI and my lack of hyper and 7-7-7 at hi mem speed is making all the difference.

You need LSC (Large System Cache) in XP, you'll be much closer to 'normal' once you get that engaged.

Have OS tweaked now, been working on it today.

After a lot of benching I finally get a sub 6m This same run with 7-7-7 would be sweet.

Next step is to do some runs on server 03.
