Think about how many buttons you need then go to the store find the one you like best.

Depends on what type of game. Since I mostly play roms on my emulator (games which I 'own), I use my PlayStation controller hooked up to a usb-to-psx adapter. It works flawlessly on most games, except the analog sticks cannot be calibrated for proper functionality.

I picked up the logitech wingman wireless controller. The button setup is similiar to the PS2 and PS1 button setup.

I use the Thrustmaster Tatical Board It has 9 buttuns around the directional pads, 7 thumb buttons, 20 other buttons, and 6 buttons for team chat and a scroll wheel. For 1st person shooters it's the best and costs about 37.00

hmm, that looks like overkill for playing stuff like roms or other side scrollers.

Nostromo N52. N52 All the guys that play with me now use them. We all swear by them. Fairly easy to set up and great feel/function. If you are looking for a joystick I like my Logitech Wingman Force3D just fine. I do BF1942 DC and it works great.
