    Seagate’s Pulsar SSD is coming

After having denied a rumour this summer that its SSDs had been pushed back to 2011, Seagate looks set to announce them shortly. Designed for business, Pulsar, the name of these drives, should be announced by the end of the week. Will they make a splash in the world of SSDs? We’ll be able to tell you when we know a bit more!

Let me guess. They'll release a typical SSD PR BS how much MTBF it has and how it kicks ass compared to traditional HDD's, but they won't give out any price numbers, they won't tell what kind of controllers are used and they won't tell if TRIM is available. Oh and they also won't tell if firmware can be upgraded on the fly. But hey, we'll know MTBF value right? Bah...

^ you forgot that they will hide small file write numbers and iops while bragging about large file readspeeds

Yeah, if they mention anything, they always mention sequential read and write stats that are the least important if you ask me.

Pulsar is a fast spinning and extremely dense and high energy star. SSD's are meant to be non moving , cool and low power . What gives

I apologize for being vague, i just don't want to divulge numbers until NDA expires. Its definitely a fast SSD, and it has good features... but its not break from the pack fast.

SLC, well as much as higher performance is nice it pretty much rules out everything we(as in non server people) hoped from Seagate's entry into SSD; Lower prices. Also them bothering with 50GB models is disappointing considering they of all people should know anything under 100gb is barely usable these days.

I guess it is fast since it uses a 16 channel controller.

"TT: The Intel X25-M is a 10 channel controller and in our lab we have observed the number of channels has a direct affect on real world performance. How many channels are currently present in the Pulsar?

David: The Pulsar currently has 16 channels. "
