Thinking of buying an EVGA 9800GX2, will it fit with my PC?

Hi everyone, not sure if this is the right place to post this. I’m thinking of buying the EVGA 9800 GX2 video card. I have doubt that it will fit with my current build. I don’t want to change anything else so if it’s a 100% match I’ll go for it.

    Here are my specs:

    Intel E6600
    D975XBX2 motherboard
    Corsair HX620 power supply
    4 gig corsair 6400C4 memory
Coolermaster CM690 case (I think the card will fit, but I'll have to take measurements)

    My main concerns are:

1- Is my Power Supply good enough?
2- Will my motherboard bottleneck the card?

So, should I make the move?

Thank you all for your answers.

PSU will be just fine (though you cant add a second). Mobo bottleneck... LOL... No. But your CPU likely will. Just o/c the heck out of it and hpe for the best.

What resolution are you gaming at? It better be AT BARE MINIMUM 1680x1050 otherwise any single card solution would be better for you.

The thing is that I have a huge deal on that card. Right now i'll be playing at 1280 x 1024 on a 17'' LCD monitor. But I will probably be upgrading to a 24'' monitor around christmas time.

    Btw, right now I have a 8800 GTS 640MB.

And what do you mean by CPU bottleneck on that board?

very good card , but at that resolution you won't see a big difference from what you have.

Just wow... yeah, its completely pointless to get that thing until Christmas...but if you have a deal on it now, get it.

Your CPU will bottleneck that card is what I meant. You never listed the speed its currently at, but if it isnt at AT LEAST 3.6Ghz, its holding that thing back. An 38500 at 4.2Ghz or so would be better. That mobo I believe is 16X pcie1.1, and I have read reviews where a dual GPU card on one slot performs better with 16c pcie2.0.

ok, here is what I understand.

    - Getting the GX2 right now will not significantly improve my performance playing at 1280x1024 over what I currently have , a GTS 640MB. Right?
What I don't get is why my CPU will bottleneck the card. Overclocking the CPU will help the card?

EDIT: Ok, just read your edit. So a single card will run better because my mobo has pci 1.1. Also a faster processor will also help, but I don't think the 8500 is compatible with the intel bx2. To change the proc, I'll have to go old technology which I don't want to.

My CPU is not overclocked right now, so its running at factory speed, 2,66. Tried a couple of tmie to overclocked, but had problems.

You have a dual GPU card trying to push more data through than your CPU can handle. Like I said, overclocking that CPU would help, yes.

Im not certain if it is or not. You would think a $200+ mobo would, however go to the MFG website and see if it accepts the 45nm chips with a bios update.

Yeah, even though you have a great deal on that card, and would see some improvements, to get the most out of that card you need to AT LEAST overclock your current CPU to 3.6Ghz, or get a better CPU and overclock it as well.

Ok, I'll make a decision based on your input.

Thank you very much for your help.
