Recently change my e8400 c1 to q9550 e0 on my maximus formula.
Got 1207 bios now. Is it worth flashing to rampage? If so, what is the best bios version to choose?

Can anyone that upgraded to 1403 still access Intel MSM during boot? I upgraded (to see if the new intel msm would increase my SSD raid 0 speed, which it did) but for me the boot process no longer pauses there at all to give you time to do the ctrl + i. I've tried doing ctrl + i right after the bios does the usb init but that didn't work either.

Had this problem when I have bought this board, around 2 years ago.
I looked for a solution in all the web, and I didnt find anything.
So I started to do some tries.

And finally I've found the solution by myself (for me worked like this...)

    1) Set the hard drives in AHCI mode in the bios.
    2) Then enter the AHCI menu
    3) Set every hard disk in the menu to "NOT INSTALLED"
3a) Set timeout to "0" (ZERO)
    4) Switch back to RAID mode for hard disks
    5) Save and reboot

    The freezing should disappear

Let me know if this worked for you...

The boards default sata detection is 35s. Have you tried lowering it to 0?

I'm not sure why, since for me it notices sata drives before it does the USB stuff. But if I leave the detection at 35s it freezes at the USB detection for almost a min before it continues with post. If I lower sata detection to 10s or less there is no pause anymore.

Will the Maximus Formula conversion to rampage cause any Ill affects over time. I don't really overclock. The reason I converted is because I need a DSDT override in my Mac clone and my friend did the conversion as well and I can share his DSDT.aml file generated from the ACPI tables.

Other than that I don't use any overclocking features.

Does anyone know of the C2/C4 options? That is a feature for the C states and Proper Power Management for the processor. Nothing to do with Speed Step!! The Asus P5Q Pro has C1E and C State Tech that provides that feature. The GigaByte P35 and P45 series have the C1E and C2/C4 options. The Maximus and Rampage only have C1E and not C2/C4 options in the Bios thus no C state script in the SSDT tables can be generated from the ACPI tables.

Is there a Hack to get this option in the Bios?

Last Question about the Conversion. Was the executable file or the other file somehow hacked to allow this BIOS conversion to take place?

They are essentially the same board. There is really no difference between the X38 and X48 chipsets. Every other feature on the board is the exact same, which is why the conversion is so easy.

So no, there is no potential damage risk associated with running the Rampage BIOS on the Maximus.

The executable is simply an engineering version of AFUDOS. It allows you to flash BIN files who's ID does not match that of the board. It is not hacked in any way and comes directly from ASUS.

well I have found a way to get a little higher fsb in the bios!!!! I leave the nb,and fsB term voltages on auto and I can get higher!! I set the GTL ref on the CPU and NB manually though. ram slightly overvolts as well on this board, If i set it to 2.20V it real value goes up to 2.35/2.4V

I've never rolled back but I would think you could do it the same way you went from MF to Rampage. There is really no benifit to going to MF BIOS. So why do you want to?

yeah just read the guide on page 1.. i think there is something with having your bios on default settings before flashing though.. don't flash with oc settings.. if you did you may experience the issues i had. i have flashed back and forth quite a few times.. the very first time i flashed from mf to rf i didn't use the default settings..oops,, it worked but was buggy and i kept loosing usb detection for my mouse and keyboard.. i flashed back to mf on default settings and it worked fine again.. i flashed back to rf on default settings and it worked.. i am again on rf bios with all rf drivers on fresh install.. i don't know if there is a difference in drivers i just wanted to try it..

well guys, the thing is I wanted to roll back to Maximus Formula BIOS because the overclock wasn´t stable on the Rampage Formula. But I discovered that my overclock problem is not the mother, the ram or the BIOS. My problem is the CPU. I configured my PC like this to test the max FSB: 470*6 - Vcore: 1.35 - Vdimm: 2.1 - NB Volt: 1.49. I tested the stability with Orthos for more than 7 hours and the system was rock solid

So, my problem is my CPU........my 8400 is a shi$·$·.....

Next time I will try to get the max frecuency.

Well I went from RF0902 to MF1403 today. Flashed it the same way. Worked out fine and I always load the setup defaults before doing any flashing. I also load them after flashing too before doing any setting up.

MF1403 seems better for 45nm quads so far. I can at least get into Windows at 440FSB, something I could never do before. However I've yet to get it LinX stable.

e8400,, it took 1.49 to keep my e8500 eo at 4.5.. i started with 1.46 but after a month it needed more.. i over heated and killed 2 sticks of my memory so i backed it down to 4.3 with lower volts and have been there for many months now.. when i get new memory that will do over 1150 i will up it again.. i think i maxed out at 475 or 477x9.5 at those volts with safe temps on water.. i need to dig up my note book to see.. i could never get 500 to even post no matter what bios, cpu or multi.. i think my board is buggy above 475 480..

those volt are very high.... with my e8400 I need 1.45 Vcore but the system wasn´t stable......I can ran Orthos and played games, but for example I useed the MSN and the system crash :S
When i get home I will try to get more FSB. but my multi now is 6. I need to try to leave the max frecuency and then search the most suitable multi

i was getting worried about the volts, it was a pretty new cpu and i have never taken it up that high before.. the ambient temps were up to.. i kept dropping a core in prime 95 blend so i kept going up until it didn't drop a core.. i got it stable here first..
i think the cpu degraded a little or whatever you call it.. i had to go up to 1.49 to stay there..

I just picked up an Intel X25-M 80GB for Win7 a few weeks ago. If I have the BIOS set to AHCI, it hangs when detecting the drive. If I have it in IDE mode, then it detects it just fine and goes on.

On the ASUS forums, someone mentions it's related to the older Intel matrix drivers built into the BIOS, and a newer one (newer than the one in the 1403 BIOS) will fix it.

Anybody else seen this issue before?

Any suggestions on this? I'd really like to get AHCI working again so I can hot-plug my SATA backup drive!

BIOS: started at 120x and I just flashed to 1403 to see if that helped, but no change.

I need your thoughts on this guys. I have this motherboard and about a month ago it failed to POST so I watched the error LCD that camer with this motherboard. It ran through everything (Mem check , GPU check , USB Check) but I think it failed at CPU check because it goes through all the motions but just before the POST screen usualy shows it shows CMOS Error.

I am hoping its just the CPU got fried and that I can just plop another new CPU into the board. I never kept an eye on the Radiator so it got clogged with dust (it was almost layered on it) so I think the CPU overheated and died.

Does anyone else know if this just because the CPU is dead? I am no longer using watercooling and I am back to my old Asus Crosshair with AMD Sthlon X2 6000+. I wanty to go back to a quad core Intel and use my maximus again.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS (removing the battery and jumpering the ground pins for a little while)? I've had picky mboards that needed that every once in a while.

If not that, I have seen flaky CPUs (and memory and mboards) cause weird stuff like that. Easiest first: Remove everything you can (ie sound cards, extra RAM modules, etc) and see if you can get it to work bare-bones first.

Oh, and run some kind of hardware monitor, like Speedfan!
