using a lineair design? I don't think so
I haven't seen shematics yet but assuming that opamps are used for the voltage regulation in combo with powertransisotrs, you can probably bake eggs on warmt genereted by the total quiscent current

HA, HA, HA.........We have "mixed" the two PSUs here.....
Just forget the 1200Watts one in this thread......I'll open a NEW one for it some of these days that I'll have the FINAL PSU here......

NOW 4500Watts PSU.......Efficiency of it will be MAX ~68% (God's willing first).....

ONLY the heatsink of it, weights about 20kgrs....

Thanks guys for the links of the shops....

Good God Greek George if you ever manage to draw 1kW VDC, you'll be piling up on the 1.6kW VAC!! That's the minimum

OT: Gotta an idea for ya... why not make your sig banner clickable to the Greek forum?

    Presuming the site is www.thelab.gr

If ya copy this in your sig, you can keep the same banner you have now but its linked to your site as well. You can change it however you want.

    Code:
    <a href="http://www.thelab.gr/" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.thelab.gr/images/Hipro5/Temp/HOT.gif" border="0" alt="" /></a>

IMO linear regulation is terrible waste of power here

    SMPS 4 win o/

...i got recently for free one MRI scanner power supply which had two 0-50V adjustable 2050W and one 0-24V adjustable 860W smps supplies Im planning to put 2050W supplies in parallel and set them to 12V (according to manufacturer they can work outputs in parallel with load balancing). And then im going to set the smaller one @ 5V. Somehow i think im not running out of juice

Here is picture of the set: http://xs119.xs.to/xs119/07395/rakki.jpg

3.3V, -5V and -12V rails can be done from 5V rail with small DIY smps.

    Will post more pics soon

Take your time. This will stay a great project, even if it takes you another 3 years to finish.
I haven't got enough time to work on my stuff here, too. Everytime I'm finished modding something I could've bought something better for the same money. Still I sure had fun modding it and I know what I have in my hands when using the parts later on. Sometimes other things just have a way higher priority. And it's good that way.

Plzz show us more of this monster

    To be a professional noob/idiot
    * Default factory speed is for noobs.
    * Everything must go above the speed that the factory consider safe.
    * Everything for more performance
    * Everything fits, and everything can be broken.
    * Most problems can be fixed by adding a volt or two.
    * Post things in your signature that makes no sense at all.
