No, current build 86 has the "Offset" part removed, after I added it in 85 and got some very odd readings on some chips.Originally Posted by nealh
The program also doesn't use any sensors found on the motherboard. It gets the temperature directly from the CPU.

And how exactly are you supposed to get the thermal probe inside the CPU? If your just measuring the outside temperature, it will allways be way lower than the actual core temperature, even if you peel of the IHS first.Originally Posted by nn_step
BTW, can anyone answer my why exactly this program is supposed to be more accurate than other temp monitor programs? They are all reading from the same senors inbeded in the CPU, are they not? Then how can one be claimed to be more accurate than the other? (or why are they showing different resutls in the first place...)

Well, the "accuracy" part is now quiestionable, as not all sensors are probably callibrated to perfection, but I bet it reports temps closer to the real core temp than all the other programs as they read what the mobo sensor reports, that's also why the readings vary between Core Temp and all the other software, also if you notice the screenshots of Dual Core chips you'll see that the program reports temp of EACH individual core.Originally Posted by Stigma

So basicly, all the other programs to date have been relying on motherboard sensors? I haven't really researched into that. I was just assuming support for reading the internal sensor was implemented shortly after the CPUs started to come equiped with them.Originally Posted by The Coolest
But yea, if thats the case, then obviously the internal sensor will be much more accurate, probably as close as close to a truthful reading that we can get, depending on the quality of the sensors themselves (which I assume are within 1-2 degrees maxium given todays technology).
You should definately contact the creators of the other popular monitor programs and share your findings so they can implement the same into their own creations. Not that your program isn't adequate, but it would be a shame not to spead the information. I assume that commercial profit from this isn't your goal anyway =)

They're different cuz your IHS isn't making good contact with both sides.

It could also happen because no CPU is created equal. I've noticed the same fenomena in Yonah CPUs and they don't have IHS. Its quite possible that one core is that much hotter than the other. There is a 3C difference at IDLE.
I would also like to see pics of idle, load core0/idle core1, idle core0/load core1 and load both cores.

Just tested on the system in my signature. There was something weird I noticed... at Idle, Smart Guardian shows the same temperature as Core #1 (in Core Temp), however, at Load (dual Prime), Smart Guardian shows the same temperature as Core #2 (in Core Temp)?! Anyone else notice anything like this? I am guessing SG can only "detect" and display one temperature... but it seems as if it actually "jumps" to different cores between idle and load...?!

hey The Coolest...is there anyway that a naked core vs an IHS covered one would result in a false reading. i have a 3/8" waterchill loop setup on one test rig and on my 3200+ AM2 I would load around 45-50C @ 2.8GHz depending on ambient temp.
a few minutes ago i popped the top on the little sucker and put it back under water...almost 20C drop in load temps was the result. i am not one to trust such a wide swing and was curious to know if you think a naked core would effect the temp readings that much?
It's Possible that your IHS was making really bad contact and now without it, it really is 20 degree's cooler.Originally Posted by 3oh6

yeah, anything is possible, but is it more plausible that the reading is being effected by the core being naked or that the temps actually plummeted that much?Originally Posted by CanadianTSi
i couldn't get 3GHz prime stable for the life of me before on this chip so i guess if i can stabalize it there then the temps might actually be lower.
