First OC Attempt 2600k + Water

    Hi all,

Not really 100% got my head around SB overclocking yet but this seems like a good result, voltage is 1.49 in bios.

    System specs:
    i7 2600k Retail (Batch L040B165)
    2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz CL9 1.5v
Asus P8P67 Pro board bios 1053
Heatkiller 3 Copper waterblock, Liang D5 Pump, Thermochill PA120.3 rad
    Antec TruePower Modular 550w
    HIS 6950 with 6970 BIOS @ 910/1450

However the temps are a bit crazy, even though this is on water ... will have to check my waterblock mounting/thermal paste, but it was running at 55-58 load with 1.35v, but I had to turn on some extra power phases/voltage options to get it stable so maybe that's the cause

    Thanks!

I have an exact same build sitting in boxes right now waiting for my cpu block. Could you post your BIOS settings for power+phase and voltage options?

Yes but I forgot to screenshot xD

Will do overnight, need to have a look in the bios first to see if I can get the temps down a bit

Would you mind posting you BIOS configuration ?

I'm running a P8P67 - EVO and I'm fighting for linX at 5Ghz, and I've raised vCore till 1.5v on load. Or it might be my L039B470 that's a crappy one

    Nice clocks op.

GFlops are really low for clock?

    70 is more like it.

    Thumbs up

LinX is probably not playing nice with HT.
Runs kinda hot ,but still 5.2Ghz is really awesome , must be rare chip.

I'm getting almost same results for 5.2 ghz not that hot. But my advice is go for 5.1 and lower voltage. I did that and temps when down like 20C.

You are really lucky, tryed those settings and it crashed after 20secs of linx

Well I'm in the mood of seeing how much time it will handle 1.5v for daily use

Best i've managed so far (submission for the 5ghz linx stable club )

It needed 0.040v extra for another 50mhz xD

Seems to be about the best I can do, the board won't boot with any higher vcore as it give me a "CPU OVER VOLTAGE ERROR" but judging by my temps on the last run it's probably a good thing :p

I just got my 2600k with asus pro too. I came straight from 775 so I'm not familiar with i7 and bclk. What does the phase control do, the one that has options of extreme to standard?

Also I noticed that bclk changes as the load in windows change, is this because I have most of the stuff on Auto?

The phase control just stops the board giving the CPU anything other than max current ... I think ... basically turns off any power saving stuff on there. Not 100% sure though, more power/volts is always better though with a big OC

As for the bclk, when the board is on default it gives you 103 bclk (at least it did for me) - it's just part of the ASUS auto overclocking system that's on the board. If you change it manually it says at 100, or whatever else you set it to.

I meant bclk was constantly changing in CPUZ. You are right about 103 because that was the setting that my mobo was setting in bios too.

I have another question. I started out with 100x36 (I don't have 1155 retention bracket yet waiting....) but in windows CPU-z, it shows me that bclk is 94.4

Is CPU-Z reading it wrong or is it some sort of power saving feature?

I notice that your CPUZ is 1.56.1 Where did you get this? I could only find 1.56 from their website. Maybe that's why mine is reading differently.

Thank you, it reads 100 bclk right now. Where did you get beta anyway? It's not even on their website.

I saw it posted on here somewhere a few days ago! You can find it easy enough if you google for CPU-Z beta though - not that you would know it existed!

Nice clocks! I have the exact same batch chip sitting in front of me which I will OC this evening, also under water

I picked this batch on purpose. They mostly seem to do 5+ ghz.

Seems pretty hot for water cooling? I just barely touch 80 at 5.0 with my silver arrow at 1.42v in bios and easytune6 reading at 1.44v
