nice philosophy! Now back to the topic Intel C2D series vs. Intel C2Q 8000/9000 series!

    Here are prices:

Now, what is the better buy? C2D E8600 or C2Q Q9550???
I´m not advocating for dualcores (Or even tricores) since the future is quads and beyond. But to make the judgement I would add that the E8600 price would drop and be replaced by the E8700.

Plus when you look downwards, Q8200 or E8400? It quickly gets tricky due to amdahls law.

Face it, the E8700 wipes the floor with all the AMD CPUs up to date, except Deneb.

Please don't do that! Don't think what you think that I think it would be appropriate thing to do!

And what does this post in compliantly different topic has to do with this one??

Did you obtained one and test it, so you know?
Sarcasm on a side, high clock and 6megs of shared cache will do what they've done for all Cores so far when it comes to singlethreaded and explicitly dual-core optimized apps... but in multithreaded apps and multitasking scenarios things will be completely different...

But back to my main argument - what's your take on it? Cheap quads (or cheaper triples) , or expensive duals?

Ok, truth to be told physix does run on different thread, but it's so low load on CPU that it's insignificant above Low graphics settings!

If Intel has put a page up like that, it means they at least have some E8700 ES chips floating around which is good enough for me!

I hate when I make a typo and it turns into a web page with links and specs. Bah. Intel and I have something in common

I stick to the theory that there are ES chips around...just gotta find em.

my tpower i45 is waiting for this e8700....

....about dual vs quad,no dude, for games ( and with high clocks dual core) is all 2009 to use easily ( game developers not run fast, some one say alan wake?...yeah sit and wait )...this is with E8400 soft oc,..with an e8700 maybe you can wait more fps,and of course more 3dmarks...

IMHO, Q9550, Q9400, and Phenom 2 quad and incoming triple core CPUs pwned any dualcore over 150 US$ today.

Maybe Intel wants to offload some of the current stock first, before unleashing this beast.

I'm sure, or they want their recently announced/implemented price cuts to take affect a bit.

But just seeing that page tells me they do in fact have some coming off the line somewhere, and as you can see by my sig, I see a lot of CPUs so it isn't hard to find the one I want In this case an E8700 "Especial Super" edition as we like to call them.
