    Far Cry 2 Performance results

CPU Results: The E8400 appears to tie the Q6600 at 1280x1024 but beats the Q6600 at 1680x1050 (using AA, very high settings, etc).

High End GPU Results: A 260 SLI beats a 4870 X2 but, the 4870 beats a 260. IMO, this may change with future driver releases (Cat 8.10 results are unknown at this time).

Midrange GPU Results: the 4850 beats the 9800 GTX+ @ 1680x1050 w/4xAA is used. At 1280 I would have liked to see results at 1280x1024 at 4xAA instead of 0xaa and 2xAA.

Great news, looks like my 8800GT @ 9800GTX+ clocks and E6300 @3.15 GHz will suffice for yet another slew of new releases!

The "review" was done at too high a setting to truly determine how much this game takes advantage of quadcore. If they would have used a faster GPU like the 4870x2, then we would have a better idea.

But, the C2Q 6600 delivers equivalent performance of a dual core that is clocked 600mhz higher (and with more cache), so something is going on.

A 25% gain, so not far off from the 30% Ubisoft claimed one would get from a quad.

I reckon the remaining 5% would come from using a Yorkfield rather than a Kentsfield.

obviously, this game is developed for x360, 3 year old hardware... graphics haven't changed for the last while because of this... with only a couple exceptions.

Looks like they used a QX9650 @ 3.0GHz with a 4870 X2. IMO, that QX9650 should have been OC to at least 3.60GHz.

Definitely need a much faster CPU to stop the 4870X2 being bottlenecked. I was still gaining an extra 2fps in Crysis going from 3.6-3.8 on my Q9450, which shows it was still being bottlenecked.

Shame they used Cat 8.9 Drivers. The 8.10s give an extra boost in performance aswell.

The Dunia engine used in Far Cry 2 as far as I know, is completely new.

Yea, but ATI has more work to do. Look at the 4850... it's all over the place!

I sense this will be the final justification to upgrade to a 4870 and a, err, modern motherboard to get the most out of my quad...

Yes this is true. It has nothing to do with any other companies' engine. Its a new engine from Ubisoft

8800gt equalling the 9800gtx+ at one point and the hd3870 beating a hd4850. Newer drivers definitely need to come out before making proper comparisons. When is the game out?
    Q9300 l 4GB DDR2 l HD 4850 l GA-X38-DQ6 l 2.5TB HD l VX550 l Dell S2409W l Vista X64

At 1280 I would have liked to see results at 1280x1024 at 4xAA instead of 0xaa and 2xAA.
    or 16x12 at 2xAA

I hope drivers improve performance greatly since non of them are above 60 fps on good settings.

It's like Crysis as far as fps split between the low, high settings. Lower you don't gain very much, higher you can lose a lot.

Wonder if this game will play like crysis to with 30 fps average being good enough for single player and online if this is as good as it gets.

    Hmm, looks like you need around a 3GHz C2D (or Q6600) and a GTX260 or 4870 for smooth gameplay @ 1680 x 1050, or a 8800GT or 4850 @ 1280 x 1024. Somewhat steep requirements but nothing we didn't come to expect from Crytek.

Somewhat disappointing showings by the GTX260 and Phenom IMO, I expected more from both.

LOL yeah I meant from the guys that made Crysis + Far Cry. Generally their games push existing hardware to the limit.
