First OCZ Core Series SSD results!

    HD Tune results

Here's some HD Tune stats I ran before putting the drive in my Thinkpad, the benchmark system is a Quad-core Q6600 with 4GB RAM on Vista.

The first drive to compare the Core to is the oldish WD1500ADFD Raptor, which I use on my desktop:

For a SSD they seem a bit slow ? at only 0.4 access time.

It seems to be the norm for the cheaper SSDs, more throughput but not as low access time as the MTRONs (yet).

That sure is one fast storage unit, and the access times are excellent compared to a raptor. Only thing that puzzles me is why the large variations in the test?

This is my own "old" 150 GB RaptorX (WinXP SP2 x86, QX6700, 4 GB RAM):

I really want to see write tests (preferably random) to this thing. If they're good it's going to be my replacement drive for my laptop. That's my current bottleneck in the system.

This was discussed in the original thread. SLC vs MLC.

Well I can't complain about the price for that performance/capacity

I would like to see compatibility testing (as many SSD's seem to have problems), RAID-0 scaling performance and write test next

What about the burst speed? 107.7 for the raptor and only 58.9 for the SSD? I thought the SSD would be higher?

looks decent, especially considering the price.. These numbers get me wondering about write speeds tho

i think this has to do with the consistency of the transfer on a SSD.

How do the core SSD compare to the "regular" more expensive ocz ssd drives? The price is double that of the core. Is there a performance increase that warrants the price hike?

I'm going to wait a year, but guys, this is a breaking point. Finally an affordable SSD drive. I'm glad I didn't buy a bunch of raptors. :P

Dammit just bought a velociraptor 1 week ago. The 64gb ocz ssd and a 320-750mb 7200rpm secondary drive would have been a perfect match.

Wow those writes are horrible! Random writes are probably even worse

I hope it's just an interface/driver problem that can be fixed with an update

Other testing apps do not show the dramatic up and down jitter.

1 drive sample on 1 controller, OCZ is on it

    Thumbs up

I think only Vista SP1 has true support for SSD. I am assuming you are using SP1.

Wasnt there issues with certain Intel chipsets and SSDs? What chipset did you test with?
