    Ok Guys,

I think It is time for me to give up on this memory. I have a couple of questions, though, before I buy something and regret it. If I move up to 1800mhz ram will I need to go from 6 to 7 on the common performance level when using a 4gb kit?

I ask, because I don't wan't to have to resort to excessive northbridge voltage to be able to run PL6. I guess, in the event that I need to run PL7 at 450mhz, does the ram speed more than make up for anything I might be losing by relaxing the performance level? Any input oulld be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Puttz is running 451 MHz FSB on QX9770 without any adjustment to FSB term voltage or CPU pll voltage. Are there some CPUs that just simply perform that much better then others (ie different batch)? Or is it that some just need some tweaking with these voltages and they will make it there too?

I got my Q9450 to 450FSB, but the RAM wouldn't go that high and the max I was able to get it to with 450FSB was 1350Mhz [5:8 ratio].

This is probably old news for most of you, but for those that don't know. Intel lists both max voltage and an absolute max voltage for 45nm quads. They make it sound as if you venture outside the absolute max that death is near. From what I've read that would be the case with FSB voltages but CPU voltages can be pushed much further as this voltage will affect temps with which a good watercooling setup can mitigate. Many have recommended to keep the FSB voltage below 1.4 to be safe.

    CPU 1.3625(max)-----1.45(absolutemax)
    FSB 1.155(max)------1.45(absolutemax)
    PLL +5% =1.575(max)---?(absolutemax)

If there is one thing I would do again, it is my CellShock ram (Blue kit).

They are the one thing that has given me the least headaches thru-out this experience.

    Highly reccomended memory!!

P.S. - Water cooler arrives next week - I'll keep things posted as they occur (looking to get to 5.0 w/2000 ram).

They have an 1800mhz 4gb kit? Didn't think so. I am interested in 4gb, as in 3x2gb. My question was, does anyone with experiance see 4gb and 450mhz FSB as a potential problem? I have a dual core (E8500) so that part is ok, but is 4gb at 1800mhz on an X48 a major pain?

I appreciate the Cellshock endorsements BTW, I would definately look into them if they had an appropriate kit.

CellShock only makes 2GB kits in DDR3 that I have seen so far. The have the 1600, 1800, and 1866 2GB kits. The price difference between the 1800 and the 1866 is about $30, so I went with the blue kit. I'm currently waiting for them to arrive as we speak. I'm interested on 4GB myself so I got to find out if anyone can run them as 4x 1GB on the BlackOps before I proceed.

    weird things

    Hi all,

Today when i pressed the power on button, the mobo powerd up for 2-3 seconds and then shut down to bootup again in 1-2 seconds after.
When i got in Windows I ran Prime for a few minutes (1-2 mins)after which all cores got rounding errors.
I then shut down and entered Bios, changing nothing, saved and exited. Booted into windows and running prime for 30 mins giving no errors.
    How can this be?

I am starting to think this Bios or CMOS has some seriouse issues with keeping the correct settings. It just doenst makes sense to me any how.

    Other people have any idea?

This issue occured with standard memmory settings 7-7-7-20 1600Mhz DDR1.9 volts. Rest on auto.

My last P5E3 Premium did that right before it started to require I press the power switch 2-4 times to get it to turn on for good. My advise, keep an eye on it and once it requires you to press the power switch twice to turn on and stay on, send it back.

    Don't know if this helps.

I ran into a few situations where I found my system doing funny things like that. It happened as I was constantly changing settings in BIOS (for days on end) tring to find something stable.

Evevntually, I just cleared the CMOS & reset my processor into place & tada - it was like nothing happened. I just had to reinstall my processor (reconigized by BIOS), Reload my last good settings & off to the races again.

I have done this twice (processor once), the last time just to reset all my present settings. Other than having to raise my PCI by 5, I've been able to lower all my other votages & still running strong (Prime95, Everest & 3DMark06) with no errors or hickups.

Maybe there is something to cleaning house (CMOS) once in a while. Who knows?

I did change some Bios settings last week but not that many and appart from that i realy dont know why this should be a problem.
Problems seem to arrise when booting without making changes to the Bios. In this case i am starting to thinking ASUS AI is fiddeling up my Bios settings trying to optimize system performance.

Its always so hard to figure out what hardware or software is causing system instability. Especialy with a totualy new system .
Then you start thinking mabye it has to do with vista 64 bit. Or mabye its my ram or is it my mobo? Mabye its cause by a corrupted hd or is it the videocard causeing the conflicts.

Its gonna take me a while to figure this system out.

so yeah i changed cpu and it still didnt post, i changed my psu. god it was a major PITA, still didnt post, and now the worst news.
before putting the cpu in the p5e3 i tried it in my 680i with my thermaltake psu, and some other supertalent ddr2 ram(2gb), and guess what it didnt post either :S

wtf.... if all my parts got zapped/fried i think i should try and achieve some sort of award. being my 20th computer build, and not one being fried...

I was thinking about taking it to a major chain computer store to be looked at, but then i thought what theyre faces would look like when i put on the service desk a 18inch red cube case with triloop watercooling cooling...
/thinsk to self: i should take my camera :S

Come to think of it - AI Suite I deleted when I was finding OCing in BIOS was getting way to finicky.

That is what made it easier for me to get over 4.0. Who knows, maybe it does screw the boot sequence up?

I`m guessing just as much as you.

Agreed. After I deleted all of the ASUS software and disabled express gate, things are behaving much better.

Not so overclocked but STABLE (run Prime95 for 7 hours and MemTest86 two full passes --- all OK)...

    Used 0503 and these settings (QX9650, 4X1GB CELLSHOCK 1800Mhz 8-7-6-1)

    Basically all AUTO except :

    CPU RATIO 0.80
    FSB 450
    PCIE 105
    RAM FREQUENCY 1801
    RAM CR 1N
    RAM CLOCK 7-7-7-20
    CPU VOLT 1.38750
    PLL VOLT 1.56
    FSB TERM VOLT 1.26
    RAM VOLT 2.02
    NB VOLT 1.51
    NB GTL VOLT 0.67
    CPU SPECTRUM Disabled
    PCIE SPECTRUM Disabled

and under CPU Configuration Menu : C1E SUPPORT and VANDERPOOL TECHNOLOGY both Disabled. Finally under NB Chipset Configuration Menu : MEMORY REMAP Disabled.

All these made my system run at 3.600Mhz and DDR3 at 1800Mhz 7-7-7-20-1T and - the most important - FINALLY STABLE !!!

Good job, it's only up from there..... That's if you plan on going further.

How do you find BIOS 0503? I'm still using 0402.

I want more...lol... that's why the new case & water cooling system come next week.

I might catch my breath for a while (I was fighting for a month now to get here)... and, sure, I'll follow the o/c path all the way !!!

Next target is a stable system over 4Ghz and get my cellshock ddr3 at 1900 or (hopefully) 2000Mhz, I've heard that this brand can handle the dangerous voltage over 2.30

As for 0503 bios, it is posted here... http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=223

    Hey Nick

    One other thing.

With Vista, I changed my power management settings to performance & found I've been able to pull my CPU voltage back 2 notches.

Continuing to remain stable - Of Course...

I've continued to be unimpressed with OCZ ram in the mobo. I'm very tempted to make a go with the Cellshock Blues. Where did you guys order your's from?

I second that motion. Even paying for overnight delivery it costs less than Tankguys; and the version tankguys has is the 1800Mhz.
