The bundled sound card is an X-Fi Extreme Audio PCI-E? Ive read somewhere in the forums that ain't really an X-fi chip.

I think that it is ingeanious, because it allows you to put a soundcard in the top slot, and have everything clear for Crossfire.

I had a Maximus formula, but DOA.

exactly; P45 is still the successor of P35, and will be OK as long as only one graphic card will be used, as each 16 lanes PCie will run on 8 lanes, should 2 cards in crossfire be used. In regard to this I suppose X48 and 790i remain the high end chipsets for now. I've read two tests of P5Q Deluxe showing equally good results with X48 and P45. But hey, they tested with one graphic card only.

I'm adding: the top card of the P5Q range, with wi-fi etc... will be priced 200 euros; that's 130 euros less than a P5E3/X48...there must be a reason

That Xifi only has EAX 4.0 from the pic...

I like the slot layout with 2 slots pci and pci-e x1 for whichever sound solution you prefer, that then leaves the lower slots for dual gpu's with dual slot coolers.
