    Micron D9DCL

    I just received a set of 2*1Gig sticks with Micron D9DCL ic's. PC 5300 Cas5.
It's a replacement for a set of Crucial Value ram that went bad (with D9GMH Ic's).
What's the overclocking potential of these ic's ? I didn't have time to test the memory yet.
    Anyone experience with these?

Pretty bad as far as D9 goes, its about the same as GCT. Usually clocks the same as the bad GMH chips.

    Well, I'm hoping for 400Mhz 4-4-4-12 (with low voltage , preferably 2.0v)

    High vdimm and WCG certainly don't mix . D9GMH /D9GKX won't survive

But this D9DCL is a different IC , also physically bigger than a D9GMH IC !

FTR my GCT can do around 1000 but that's with like 2.4v. In other words, too much for 24/7 and the real-world benefit is minimal anyway.

GCT/GMH/GKX = all the same IC , just different binning (266/333/400)

    D9DCL is a different IC , rated CL5 333

    some initial results :

    403Mhz 5-4-4-12 2.0v OCCT ok
    403Mhz 4-4-4-12 2.1v OCCT ok

    483,6Mhz 5-5-5-15 2.05v OCCT ok / super pi 32M ok
    483,6Mhz 5-5-4-12 2.1v OCCT ok / super pi 32M ok

    403Mhz 4-4-3-12 2.1v OCCT crash
    503Mhz 5-5-5-15 2.1v OCCT crash

    Pretty good RAM
    Should do 500+Mhz with 2.2-2.25vdimm

    What is "high" vdimm?

Are my ballistix gonna' die on me?

Got a stick for my wife of D9xxx fatbody as well. This is to replace 2x512 D9s that WILL do 900 all day every day (pretty golden in my book) and are almost as fast as my Dominators. Stick cost me all of 24.99.

Cheap RAM FTW, this is like another Buffalo...

yeah...can you explain for people who are new to WCG? I don't need my ram dying on me.....

Most people, when attempting to maximize overclocks will up the Vdimm, or voltage to the memory (V=voltage, dimm=Dual Inline Memory Module), thereby stabilizing the clock speeds of RAM run above spec. Certain memories "respond" to higher voltage, or perform better the more power you feed them. However, over time, high enough Vdimm can degrade the RAM, either making it unstable or outright killing it.

Given the A. Need for stability and B. Long LONG runtimes of mant WCG computers, it is advised to not run your RAM too far out of Vdimm spec. A flaky system can be blocked from WCG, and a dead system returns no points and costs you money.

JAWS! I've nuked my way through... 3 sets of Team Xtreem PC6400 3-3-3-8 ram running at or below the voltages as shown on the Ram module itself by Team ~2.2-2.35. (I actually ran them mostly at 2.1) Very often actually only at 400-450 Mhz.

EDIT: Wasn't just WCG... BF2,:banana::banana::banana: and other stuff/projects running aswell.

    Uhhh... in short...

I lost 3 pairs of tracers.

    2.175 <zap>

    2.15v <zap>

    2.0v <zap>

    1.9v ??? <i just got the RMA back>

This is PC1066 ram being run at 900mhz wth 4-4-4-8 timings on last zap. :\

And im not the only one. You should post a thread asking how many of us lost our ballastix. I think DTung even said he had a few dead he needed RMA'd.

Um, okaaaay, here I was concerned about my CPU being pounded 24/7. But RAM is the component in most danger?

yes , i would say so. Never had a dead cpu from too much volts. RAM on the other hand... Although you're never 100% sure it was the high vdimm that killed the RAM. Could have been a weak set from the start.

That's a good point. I was just under the impression 2.1 and lower was definitely "safe", provided you're dealing with a quality part to begin with of course.

1.9V for WCG is where i would draw my line.

I havent heard from anyone who lost there sticks at 1.9V if i lost this pair, the next pair is going in a non WCG rig.

My Dominator is rated for what, 2.1? Something like that, should I lower the volts (and most likely the OC) if I run it in my machine for both gaming and WCG?

Hmm. I have an OCZ RAM Fan, think active cooling makes a difference?

no... because i 120mm fan 3 inches from the ram sticks which was blowing air over them and it still shorted out at 2.0V

But i think OCZ rams are better endurance wise. Overclocking wise, i dont think anything gets better then tracers.

And this may shock you guys, but i have yet to see a kingston ram fail.

Well I never have either but that's in Macs which isn't much of a comparison here.
