    6400+ owners please..

..just moved this from wrong forum, sorry

Have any of you actually been able to increase your multiplier past 16??? This and the new 5000+ are supposed to have 'cusomisable multiplier' yet I sure can't move upwards on my DFI board on the latest bios, and it seems someone else can't on their cheapo board.

Can't seeem to find any evidence around the place

    Cheers

when the 6400 was released, one of the disappointed newegg revs said the 6400 was downward unlockable only... so that at least confirms your finding, if you can trust a ne rev...

    edit: found it..

    Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 fast & stable

Pros: A fast 3.215 GHz, and stable at 100% load on both cores with a CPU temp of 41C (Antec900 case with a Zalman 9700 heatsink). Has a 1.424 VCore. DDR2 at 400MHz x 2 due to the even multiplier. Best bet if you need a new AM2 chip now and don't want to overclock. I've had the FX-62 at 3.215 GHz but it took a 1.6 VCore to get there, not too mention the heat...

Cons: The multiplier maxes at 16x (it's only unlocked with regards to lowering the multiplier: standard for the x2's). Would have been nice to get an unlocked multiplier since the 6400+ was released at a "premium" price compared to the other AM2 chips.

    Other Thoughts: Antec 900; Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wi-fi; Thermaltake ToughPower 850W; AMD 6400+ @ 3.215GHz; Zalman 9700 Heatsink Fan; 2 x PNY 7950GT in SLI (w/ 512MB GDDR3 each); 2 x Corsair Dominator 1 GB Dual Channel DDR2 800; 3 x Seagate 300 GB SATA HDD's...

The 6400 doesn't have an unlocked multiplier, that's why you can't move upwards. I should say it doesn't have a fully unlocked multiplier, as you can adjust downwards only. Only the 5000+ (Black edition) has the fully unlocked multiplier.

As quoted by LowRun......"So, we are one week past AMD's worst case scenario for BD's availability but they don't feel like communicating about the delay, I suppose AMD must be removed from the reliable sources list for AMD's products launch dates"

well this is some proof of the 5000+ being unlocked:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...3&postcount=53

I don't understand why the 6400+ isn't upward unlocked to be honest, why did they evenbother mentioning it in the literature? everything with CnQ is downward unlocked!

    oh well. Thanks all.

    I'm disapointed,

5000+ Black Edition = 2x512kb and Energy Effective

EDIT: Im confused, is it a 65nm Windsor? (Never heard of it before though)
I find ton's of different info on it, what is 100% true and what is not?

    just guessing, but I'd imagine it's a 89w 90nm windsor.
    all the 5000's:

    I tried both 6400+ and 5000+BlackEdition on DFI's NF590-SLI.

    http://www.oohashi.jp/c-board/file/2...k_3.5G_x17.png

I couldn't see over x16 multiplier in case of 6400+,
but I confirmed that 5000+B.E. is unlocked upto x25 at least within DFI's NF590-SLI BIOS.
    http://www.oohashi.jp/c-board/file/5...k_upto-x25.jpg

So, I think unlocked-6400+ is just a rumor...
...I've not tried CrystalCPUID's mulitiplier changing function, though.

or is the 5000 black a 6400 with unlocked multi!

AFAIK, 6400+ does exists only as Black Edition, at least in Japan, so far.
And of course, my 6400+ described in previous post is Black Edition.

    how's the overclking of 5000+BE ?
if u have chance to test under cold, that will be great.
'coz unlocked multi is the only way to solve the AMD coldbug/fsb problem.

    thx a lot

Is there any difference in colbug from 90nm(f3) to 65nm? Heard rumors the new 5000+ B.E is a new revision of 65nm, could anyone confirm this?

Thanks for the replies, I think that's fair confirmation only the 5000+ is unlocked.. weird.

Tictac: I thought this too, but kyson can go upward on exact same board with
    a 5000+

Kyson: Mine wont budge with Cbid.

LIXMARK: From what I and others have found.. absolutley, brisbane is much worse.

    F3: operate @ 200 down -20c to -30c. 250htt clock+ @ ~ -10 (for me at least)

G1 brisbane: Operate @ stock down to 0 to -10 , clock vs temp, not 100% sure.

PS crap that is a nice Overclock for a brisabane, Kyson!.. 2 stepping looks interesting :p Also interested to know what cooling

    Though CoreTemp 0.95.4 shows -1 deg-C, it's not correct...too low.
    I got 3.5G with mild water-cooling...yeah mild water-cooling,
    assisted by mild running air-conditioner wind...around 18 deg-C temperature.
    CPU-Z shows Vcore=1.552V, and it's almost accurate.

I spoke with Chris Tom over at AMDZONE.COM and he says his 6400+ is completely unlocked, both up and down.
As quoted by LowRun......"So, we are one week past AMD's worst case scenario for BD's availability but they don't feel like communicating about the delay, I suppose AMD must be removed from the reliable sources list for AMD's products launch dates"

wondering if you could tell me if that CPU has a completely unlocked
multiplier? Basically, can it go above it's 16x multiplier? Thanks for
    any help.

That's the response I received from him.

I also read a month ago that the 6400+ was to have a fully unlocked multi.....most likely this will be bios related.
