Penryns being released Q4 2007 now.

Ahead of the 2008 debut, so it can only mean AMD real quad is here soon as well.

Is the penryn a 2x dual core config or 4 core native config? Cant remember.

Also depends how much it costs, and new mobo would probably be needed.
I wouldn't count on support by 975 boards.

It`s not native quad core, just 2+2!

    Hi,

I got an official answer from Intel UK :

From: emeasupport@mailbox.cps.intel.com [mailto:emeasupport@mailbox.cps.intel.com] Sent: dinsdag 7 augustus 2007 8:24To: Johan DaesSubject: Case XXXXX, Intel® Desktop Board D975XBX2 Dear Mr. XXXXXXXXXXX Thank-you for contacting Intel® Technical Support. We are pleased to assist you within the scope of Intel® limited warranty. It could possibly be a BIOS error. Unfortunatly I do not have that specific CPU available for testing at this moment so I cannot confirm its that specific BIOS. I would advise you to try downgrading the BIOS to the following versions. 2747, and if that one doesnt resolve the issue try 2692. You can find them at: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Filt...&OSFullName=OS Independent&lang=eng&sType=prev Kind regards Dale M.Intel® Customer Support (EMEA)Intel Corporation (UK) LimitedRegistered No. 1134945 (England) Registered Office: Pipers Way, Swindon SN3 1RJVAT No: 860 2173 47 A representative of Intel may subsequently contact you (via email) in order to obtain your feedback on the quality of the support you have received. If you do not wish to participate in this or future surveys, please read the instructions within the survey email invitation to unsubscribe.

I haven't had the time to test if the bios is indeed the error, too much work on that machine for the moment to swap the QX6700.....
Still, very strange that the Intel guys don't even have their own cpu's in their labs.....

Maybe I'll give it a try in the weekend...

    What about G0 Q6600?

The "Supported Processors" page listed Q6600 there, but does it mean the board support B3 only as all other G0 CPUs had been removed from the list?

Try to change the jumper on the board to "Maintenance Mode" and boot the computer into BIOS screen to disable "WatchDog".

    great...
finally got all my bits...put it all together...crossed fingers/ deep breath and flicked the switch -yay!, no blue smoke.

except why should I get a:
    STOP 0x0000007E (0xC0000005 0xF748E0BF 0xF78DA208 0xF78D9F08)
    pci.sys
    Address: F748E0BF Base: F7487000 Date Stamp: 3b7d855c

Blue screen at the point that Windows XP says "Windows will now begin Setup" of a fresh install

Memtest 1.7 after 6 passes = no errors.

please don't tell me my mobo is FUBAR on arrival (well, ok if that's wot it iz tell me, but be gentle)

    Hi,

please make sure the XP-version you are installing has SP2 or it will most certainly cause problems with PCI-Express Graphics cards. The result is the nice blue screen you are experiencing....

I am but using RAID...not sure about the chipset drivers. Another warning is that if you're running Vista, you have to reactivate with the Matrix driver anyways.

Yes, I've installed the Matrix driver for my RAID - works fine in Vista. I also tried the chipset driver, and all it does is install different USB drivers in Vista. No biggie.
