the x3210 is cheaper because it is only 2.16 vs the q6600 2.4. The x3220 is about the same price as the q6600 generally.

WoW thats a huge drop. My Quad is going to be the last thing I buy. I will get everything eles and then which ever is cheaper the Q6600 G0 or the Xeon 3210 is the one I will get.
Are you using the stock northbridge heatsink? My QuadGT seems to only like higher FSB (for a quadcore) with a very cool northbridge. I can get to 405fsb with a watercooled northbridge, and 380fsb with a Tt Extreme Spirit on the northbridge.
Another thing is that your PWM mosfets might be getting too hot with the NB heat getting added to them.
This is how I have mine setup.

Well since I cant see you I really don't know but with your attitude your sure acting like one.
BTW-as I stated before a 15c drop in temps just from lapping is very extreme and I will stand by my previous comment as part of your problem being from a bad mount the first time.
Even the most experienced can get a bad mount from time to time, it doesn't make you a noob so get over it.

Well on a lighter note, newegg has them now so I dont know if they just got a new shipment or finally listed it. Would be cool if they were all G0 though.
I ordered the 3220 from provantage so should have it in a couple of days and will post its results.

They are prob new shipment, but tax and shipping will kill the deal. Unless they guarantee it is G0 stepping, it definitely wroth it.

And I suggest you do the same in realizing that if his CPU was concave enough for a lapping job to knock 15c off his temps then he would have noticed it before he ever installed the CPU the first time.
You know, since you guys are such pros and all im sure you wouldn't have missed that![]()
My X3210 was so concave the AS5 in the middle of the IHS didn't even touch the waterblock. But I discovered that pretty fast and lapped the thing.

The fact that so many IHS's are so woefully convex or concave seems terrible to me. I mean 10C+ temp difference is huge. It seems like a huge QC lapse on intel's part to me, especially on the xeon line.
Sounds like my 4300, I lapped that because I couldnt get good temps on phase (lol), load would shoot up to like 10c or so. I remounted twice with the same results. I
lapped it and the four corners were copper and I could still read the writing in the middle. I put the thing back in and load temps were around -25c for the given oc I had it set at. It makes a huge difference. I havent scene a 10c temp drop since the 4300's but it is easily very possible to do.
This is especially interesting since intel is so adamant about bringing down the operating temps in "stock trim". One of the marketing ploys of the G0 stepping is that it runs so much cooler than previous steppings at stock settings. If they paid more attention to the quality of the IHS they could realize even bigger benefits relative to heat for the G0 and all steppings for that matter.
