    Gigabyte P35-DQ6 - some numbers.

After I tested the very hot Asus P5K Deluxe (literally very hot, specially on the PWM a choke area that pass 100ºC) I decide to test a much more fresh P35 mobo: the Gigabyte P35-DQ6

After umount that silly "Crazy-cool" think, mounted a Tuniq Tower and do some testing with a FSB lover E6700.

This is more or less the maximum pi stable FSB I can get

I was expecting a bit more, since this CPU pass easy 570 on P5B dlx

BUT, then I decide to test 3-3-3 1:1 and get this from my Corsair 6400C3 at around 2.65v

    480Mhz 3-3-3 is really nice

Time not so good, due to strap change..

Need to learn the tricks for this mobo and may back with some more numbers..

Hello, yesterday receipt my motherboard Gigabyte P35DQ6 and a few memories Geil ddr2 1066 c4. But I do not find in the BIOS like they form the latencies.

That you use version of the BIOS?

    Thanks!

    I'm spanish!

Hit control F2 when you get into the bios, then you'll see the timings.

It's good to see someone like yourself playing with a P35-DQ6 and finding similar issues to the rest of us mortals, makes me feel a little better in a way!

I think that Gigabytes take on the P35 chipset has got a lot of maturing to do before we start seeing its real potential. I am convinced that several options in the bios are broken and with time, a more mature bios will help people to start to get the best from this board.

Try the F3 BIOS......it has far better memory and super pi performance.
IMO, F4 BIOS upwards sucks in terms of RAM performance.....maybe because they do the strap change 'too early'.

i should note that it is different with "G0" step CPU.

Both hit exact same FSB on P5K DLX and P35-DQ6

Gigabyte supply a couple of retaining nuts for the NB for if you remove Crazycool.

That in DQ6 are not able to fix completely the NB dissipator as they are too long and even fully tightened, the nut have a clearance of about 1 mm to the PCB of the mobo.

You have to find some plastic spacers to fill this clearance and to fix well the NB dissipator.

The "Performance Enhance" setting that controls memory settings does not function yet on the DDR2 P35-DQ6 using the F4 BIOS. I have set it to Standard, Turbo, and Extreme settings but Mbench and Memset results/settings are identical between all three of them. Have you noticed this with the F5G BIOS you used?

This board should have a great deal of hidden potential left in it with this setting is fixed and a good bit of BIOS fine-tuning done I think.

    Same in F5g BIOS.
A lot of things don't work in the memory section of this MB.

Have you tried to set every line in BIOS about memory latencies from "auto" to the SPD value? Well, in my MB, if I do so I can't boot anymore It is a nonsense!

Have you tried to launch the program rootkit revealer by Mark Russinovich and perform a scan?
    http://download.sysinternals.com/Fil...itRevealer.zip

Even at default BIOS settings I have always a BSOD (Blue Screen) when the program check the HKLM/..../system hive in the registry.

Everyone with the DQ6 can check these issues and report the results?
It will help me to understand if I have a faulty MB or whatever else.

interesting thread. from what i've gathered from reading this forum, the DQ6 (and probably/hopefully the DS4/DS3P):

    - changes straps at a lower FSB than the p5k dlx (417Mhz v 500Mhz?)
    - memory performance is not as strong as the p5k dlx
    - performance varies depending on bios
    - some bios options don't work
    - is just so-so when overclocking dual cores (compared w/p5k dlx)

+ runs cooler than the P5k dlx
+ is able to run tight memory timings at reasonable FSB speeds
+ people are quite happy with it's quad core OC'ing performance
+ does very well with G0 steppings

taking this into consideration what is Giga's track record...can we expect them to fix their bios/performance problems?

perhaps the Giga is a board built for the processors of tomorrow. if it shines with the G0, maybe it will shine with the Penryn...but who knows.

    Hi folks.

I am getting this board with Crucial DDR2 BallistiX PC6400 2048MB and a 6600, what do you think will the mem work fine with this board ?

My first Intel in many years, my socket 939 have served me well.

Brama, set your RAM to "Option 2". It sounds like you are getting the problems I ran into with my own RAM... "Option 1" is not designed for high-speed D9 memory. Set to "Option 2" and see if your issues vanish completely...

The Crucial Ballistix I use is rated for 5-5-5-15 but I had no issues running it at 4-4-4-12 at 1068Mhz on this board.

Interesting, it works for me. If memory timings set to auto, Extreme is a little better than Standard according to CPU-Z.

Brama, I get the same thing. It doesn't boot. Seems like SPD subtimings on the left are adjusted based on the main timings. You can see this if you keep changing the first four entries, after reboot your SPD subtimings change. You don't know what BIOS used for "auto", so replacing them with SPD might screw it up.

I am already using "option 2" from the day you discovered this issue with micron D9 Chips.

About the registry problem, I am 90% convinced that it is a bad registry key that causes the BSOD. I read of similar problems around the net.

This DQ6 MB seems to me too sensitive to any BIOS change in the memory area.
Last night I set 427x8 with memory at 2.5 (1067 MHz) and I run Orthos for 8 hours without any issue.
Today I tried to install a 8 Gbytes game and a lot of CRC errors during the installation.

This evening I will reduce the memory multiplier to 2.4 and I am sure The CRCs will disappear.

Not surely an easy MB to overclock stable.

Sheesh, if Gigabyte could stop repeating the RAM issues they'd make some inroads on ASUS much more quickly... this is just like the ProMOS vs D9 RAM back with the original DS3/DQ6. Right down to the part where my vanilla 6400 Corsair RAM would OC to 1GHz for a 500FSB, while the Corsair stuff with D9's wouldn't. For this board I have not adjusted any RAM timings other than manually setting 4-4-4-12, I left the rest to default/auto settings.

Its quite wierd, I see some people with D9GMH and have horrible OCs, yet some people have no problems at all (i.e. me.) Even with 4GB of D9GMH, i run 1000MHz 4-4-4-12 no problem 24/7. Able to take the memory to 1200MHz if need be.
