It worked/works great for me too.
Simple and effective.
I was surprised that the more lead you put on there the more resistance though. I used a no.2 pencil and set my vcore down to 1.5(bios) and it reads 1.48 in the hardware monitoring(bios) and programs.
Before I'd set it at 1.5 and got 1.456.
And stable across the board when loaded, no drop at all now.

vdroop pencil mod on P5B Deluxe really boosted my Q6600 benching max speeds from 3600mhz to now 3829mhz max screenie at only 1.464v vcore load !

Great improvment, im seeing around 100mhz increase aswell due to lower Temps. Im getting around 4oC temp improvment due to lower Vcore.
Eva2000, Thats certainly a nice water setup you have there dude. Handles the quad core superb. I take it the asus tool has a problem reading CPU temps on Quad cores?
If i use a 2B pencil for this mod, how much kohm do i have then?
default it is 80kohm. I want 14.5kohm, after seeing this table:
I might try this on my new p5b dlx mobo next week.
What are the risks and precautions I should take?
although this mod helped eliminate dvroop a bit, it did not help the fact that when i enter 1.67 something vcore, asus probe only detects it as 1.6. why is this hapening and how do i fix it?

Did you try AI suite from Asus or some other monitor? Could be asus probe. Asus probe always read my temps wrong.

Hmm, anyone try just taking some conductive ink and a needle to just bridge it for vdroop, like on ds3? I'd imagine actual vcore might be a tad higher than set from general consensus. Kind of like old asus' in p3 days where actual vcore was higher than set by a bit

Just wanted to report back with my results. I ran out of conductive ink so I settled for the #2 pencil approach. I did a measurement initially and !! 130k ohm?!?!?! my dmm is still low on battery, and was giving inaccurate results when I used it a week ago, but in some preliminary testing, it's seeming to be ok. also, I warmed the battery in my hand for a few minutes if that helped.
But anyway. Initial was 130k instead of 80k?? Ok. I started shading up a storm. I remember doing the pencil mod on my 7900gs and I was there for minutes shading. So I shaded for a full minute or so. Checked it again. 5k ohm. Hmm.... way lower than the 14 or so you tested. Alright! Boot it up.
The p5b vanilla is starting to show some ugly cold boot issues I thought I was escaping when I left the ds3 but oh well. It died the first time so I pulled the plug and tried again. I went in bios, and it was at failsafe 266fsb again with 1.325v vid. I check vcore in bios and am seeing 1.320v. Cool. Right around what vid of 1.325 is. Put back the 1.425v I needed before vdroop mod just so I could establish a baseline.
Boot into windows at 8x400=3200, 1.425v set vcore.
Fire up cpuz and speedfan. Speedfan reports 1.42v. Ooooh.
Cpuz reports 1.424v. Holy smokes .
Fire up orthos to load it. It goes up to 1.432v and hasn't budged. Sexy sexy.
edit: I'm down at 5k ohm now and am liking it a lot, but I'm still curious what 0 ohm would do. better not push luck right at this moment though since I'm so satisfied with the one minute of my time. Now time to explore any possible p5b vanilla vdimm mods.
update: 1.35v set vcore. 1.344 idle. 1.352 load. gorgeous figures. looks like it pretty much countered vdrop as well.

Nice results,
I think ill need a bit more shading on mine then.hehe "Grabs Pencil from pot"
Aye. 1.325v set results in 1.320 idle and 1.328 load .
Also, bios seems to report identical values as cpuz during idle.
Here's a summary for 5k ohm:
Set Bios/Idle Load
1.425 1.424 1.432
1.350 1.344 1.352
1.325 1.320 1.328
I haven't tried a wider range of vcores and I know extrapolation isn't always a good idea, but hey, 3 for 3 great results

How do you remove the pencil (without contaminating other parts) once it has been shaded onto the resistor on the motherboard?
rubber / qtip+alcohol. I've personally never used rubber. a few wipes with qtip and alcohol and its gone

How do you pencil? Do you pencil on top of the resistor or around it? I'm not sure how?

Is this mod removable I would assume so but I never know I just want to some day do a hard modeed v droop with the VR and stuff so yea
thanks.

I've just done it and it works! I used a HB pencil.
Before I needed 1.3V set in the BIOS for 356x9 (3.2ghz) with my e6600. Vdroop at idle is 1.28V, at load it stays at 1.28V
Now I only set 1.2875V set in the BIOS and there is not much vdroop. Vdroop at idle is 1.26V, load is 1.27V!

I'm currently running orthos at 400x9 (3.6ghz) 1.45V set in the BIOS, 1.43V idle & load
Before I needed to set 1.5125V in the BIOS.
I'm EXTREMELY happy by how much this simple mod has helped me!

This is what I got so far ..... (after quite a few ...5-6 strokes)
Vcore set in BIOS: 1.4875v
Vcore monitor in BIOS: 1.48v
vCore in Speedfan 4.32Beta8=1.48v @ idle ....
vcore in speedfan = 1.48v loaded with dual Prime
Now, need to find the point where I can measure vcore with DMM.
P.S: btw, do you have vdroop pencil mod for P5N-E SLI board ?
