    Good news...

    The blue screens are back!!

This time a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error and a random restart without any kind of message! To me, this makes no sense; The system is as solid as a rock on the new mobo for a few days, then repeats the crashing!

I would have expected the instability to be completely continuous if any hardware or driver problems were present, and I can't understand why there would be a small length of problem-free time.

    Anybody experienced this before?

Sorry to butt in here but I am having my first real problem with my P5wdh DX

I put a HR-03 heat sink on my Ati x1900xtx today and all was fine until this evening.

I was checking some digital images and portions of the images are black.

I double checked the cooler for shorts to the card and can see none.

So I put the card in the lower Pcie slot and the images are showing perfectly.

Went back to the top Pcie slot (being sure the card was fully in the slot) and I have the blackened areas on digital images again. I reinstalled the ati drivers with no change.

Again went into the lower slot and the images are perfect.

    Has the board gone bad?
Let me know if you have any thoughts please and thanks.
Should have just left the damn noisy factory cooler on the 1900! I had a perfect system. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
    jim
Edit: Problem solved by going into ATI Cat Control Center and resetting the GAMMA thingy. God knows I hate ATI drivers and products.
No shame on the mighty ASUS P5WDH DX! Damn great molther board!

First off, thank you Nick and Geisher for the help.

New questions now. Just flashed Bios to 1707 (using Asus Update in Windows), when rebooting bootup screen stated "checksum error". What went wrong now, hit F2 to proceed and all seemed to work.

Next, when adding programs, etc. and asked to restart the computer hangs in the bootup screen (one with hit DEL to get to Bios). Have to fully shut down with power switch and turn on with power switch, then computer completes with the Windows install. Why can't computer restart from the restart command or the soft boot switch?

During bootup on bootup screen both my CD and DVD reader/writers are listed, but in Bios only the CD drive is listed. Tried the DVD writer in Windows with Nero and made a data disk ok. Both are on the secondary IDE port. Why doesn't the (Pioneer 110) DVD drive not show in Bios?

    Again, thank you for helping.

I've owned a few powerstream 520's and yes, you have to be carefull with it. (I changed to Tagan)
Don 't know if you have the combined or the split load revision.

If you have the combined load version, you simply have to readjust de voltages with the board under load and everything at stockspeed.
Measure them with a digital volt meter.
12.12V, 5.05V and 3.34V are the best values (in my experience) to adjust for overclocking. (too much voltage puts extra stress on the regulators of the mobo and that's not a thing you want. needless to say that undervolting the powerlines is not an option)

If you have the split load version (later revision, you have to check the label on the psu itself) the 12V2 seems to be the first that get's hit if there are problems with the electrical power circuit in you house or if you yank out the powercord like you did.
The board is capable of powering an E6xxx with only 12V1 working, i6xx or D8xx will simply not boot. (on 12V1 alone, that is)
    Overclocking will be impossible...

Best thing is to measure all the voltages coming from the PSU UNDER LOAD, if you have a power sucking graphics card, plug it in and have 3Dmark looping while you measure.

What if it's not the powersupply???
That would be difficult. Most likely, something on the board is damaged and it will not recover from looking at it :-( RMA-time.
If it would have happened to me, I'd try another bioschip, or flashing the chip (in an external programmmer, so the whole chip gets flashed) before sending the board in rma, but I don't know if you have a programming device.

Blue screens like that are most often memory/chipset related.
Loop memtest in windows or memtest under dos for a few hours, it's most likely your memory subsystem acting up on you.

What FSB and Vmch are you using?

    I'd recommand:

    < 350MHz 1.5V
    350- 400MHz 1.55V
    401- 425MHz 1.6V
    >425MHz 1.65V

Try SPD settings for your mem and overvolt mem with 0.1V when running memtest.

    @gritty

Just flashed Bios to 1707 (using Asus Update in Windows), ... hit F2 to proceed and all seemed to work.
I read somewhere in this thread someone mentioning that flashing Bios using AFUDOS is safer than the Asus update(Alt+F2 during POST)... but seem like it's not a big deal as your comp is working.

... restart the computer hangs in the bootup screen (one with hit DEL to get to Bios). Have to fully shut down with power switch and turn on with power switch, then computer completes with the Windows install.
this should be fix with your new Bios(look at the 1st page of Larry thread, there is some info about that ), try to disable any devices you are not using to speed up the POST too.

During bootup on bootup screen both my CD and DVD reader/writers are listed, but in Bios only the CD drive is listed.
Look at the jumper and see if they are correctly configured
I have one of my optical drive in de PRI_EIDE channel and don't show up in Bios but windows does, so as long as it's working there is nothing to worry about.

Hi, flashing the bios with Asus update will always result with the checksum error as it resets the bios. You need to go back inthe the bios and reset it the way you want.
AFUDOS won't clear out the settings if you don't put in the correct parammeter, / something. As far as I'm concerned neither are anymore safer than each other..

I suspect you neglected extra northbridge cooling again

In device manager, I get an Error 31 - Cannot load driver for 6TO4 adapter. This is in Vista Ultimate. Does anybody else have this problem or know of a solution?

The thread where OneyedK talked about checking the power rails could surely be the issue. You should check your voltages and verify.

However for me, when I started having degrading performance, it ended up being one of my sticks of memory, which errored out in memtest86. I'd recommend to burn a bootable dos iso of memtest and checking your dimms together, then separately if you have an error, to rule that out.
