    Dude if they sell a board with options to overclock and make money marketing it to the oc community the board unmodded ofcourse should atleast be able to handle a resonable oc without loosing ramslots onboard lan or dying no ?

    missed the modded part but its not the only board that has had problems ofcourse its deffective by design if some of the settings they put in spec
    makes the board lose lan , ramslots or even burn .....
    if it works for 99% perhaps its only 1% that use the settings that cause the problems thats not any kind of evidence that the board is not faulty but i see your point.

    i guess im a little frustrated =(

    i've seen other people try to rma boards that they broke ocing too, wtf. be an adult and accept that you broke it, it was never defective.

    btw i oc my p5b-d's so i'm not saying anything against ocing or modding just that people need to accept responsibility for their actions.

    loosing ramslots and lan are very good examples of reasons to rma i agree but when some-one posts that they killed a board after modding it, it upsets me. and same thing goes for other components. i wounded a stick of ram recently and called to get a new one and the tech told me he would rma even though i repeated that i put 2.4v or more into ram rated at 1.8. so i did rma it and crucial will get my money from now on.btw the ram still worked perfectly just finicky booting at stock volts.
    and as for some settings not working with some equipment, that is because there needs to be a wide range of options available on say a 965 chipset to allow mobo makers and consumers to use a wider range of devices. so obviously not every setting works with every component and some may destroy components. it even says so in the bios!

    On the box it says adjust speed as you wish .... i adjusted speed as i wished and the board died. faulty ? yes. killing other parts then the mobo itself ive said nothing about as i said i missed that that guy had moded his board.

    my only problem is that these boards die when wee use settings provided and advertised by asus. ive said nothing about other components. Never actully killed any other component. AND it has happend to me on 2 different boards whitin 1 month.

    maybe it is another issue or the boards are not really dead. i have seen lots of people who thought their boards were dead including me. and then try again in a couple of days and it works.

    i thought i killed my first p5b-d i oc'd particularly hard all volts maxed and when i rebooted nothing no beep nada so i completely went through everythingand gave up. got on girlfriends pc and bought a new board and payed for over night. the next day it booted like nothing was wrong (with minimal set-up, 1 dimm etc. i kept the new board and installed it because i still didn't completely trust the old one.

    and btw my 6600 is a 30a also so far 9x 500=4500mhz dual 32m stable, 1m stable @ 4700. ram is my limit i got crucial 10th ann.edition and it isn't very stable above 1030 or so or else nb isn't stable one or the other but i haven't needed max vcore yet so i think the chip has more in it. heck it can prime @ 4ghz with just 1.4 in bios, droop and all.

    what psu do you use?

    my 30A doesnt even come close to those speeds need about 1.6v for 3880 max bootable is around 3980.
    Might be another issue but i have tried everything i can think of , clear cmos over night , minimal setup etc.
    Also theres one or two others that has had the exact same problem as me in this
    thread so im guessing it has hapend to other people aswell.

    Using a seasonic s12 600w

    yes my primary LAN port died and at the time the board was not overclocked and never had been

    just stopped working one day, thought it was my ISP but swapped ethernet over to LAN2 and worked fine.

    successfully RMA'd the board

    i've noticed that the heat pipe runs very close to the LAN1 port which maybe a reason for failure (overheating) ???

    I could live without onboard lan ... at least lan 2 is working for me.
    Mine is still working but it shows at Half-duplex only ... and when I check the log of my router is keeps changing from 10 to 100 ethernet ... weird. It's probably going to fail all the way soon.

    is that the top port or bottom port.............i think my bottom port doesn't seem to function but i am yet to investigate to be honest

    Lan1 Is The Top Port

    Afaik Lan2 Uses The Pci Bus And Lan1 Uses The Pci-e Bus So It Is Preferable To Use Lan1 For Your Internet Connection

    ^ come to think of it,my LAN1 or the one that uses the PCI-E bus isn't working either- its cos im still using my old pc for the net connection and the new one is in another room and it will be sorted tomorrow, but I moved the p5b-d one to this room and hooked it up and the the top port wasn't working(light was blinking orange- but there was no 'connected' message), the bottom port worked(but had 100Mbps, while the top port had 1Gbps and wasn't working).

    oh well, i'll have to check it out in detail when i move the connection to the other room tomorrow.

    oh btw has anyone gotten both lanports working at gigabit speed ? mine seems impossible to set anything over 100full , lan1 connected to a gigabit switch and lan2 to a 3com gigabit nic so should be full speed but isnt = ( oh well time to go and get a new board now.

    All these dead lanports raise a question, is that something to do with setting the PCI-E frequency too high?

    i know that the Intel chipset will drop off line on the Asus 975X board above 120 MHz on the PCIe bus speed.

    My first post here

    To fix the 1x PCIe , do the following

    In NB :
    PEG Force 1x => Disable
    PEG Link Mode => Auto (if you change this to Normal it'll go 1x)
    Asus C.G.I => Disable

    In SB:
    PCIEX16_2/PCIEX1_1 Force => X4Mode (fast)

    that's it , no need to add voltage or increase the PCIe freq

    does anybody have problem with bios 0804 report the wrong ram number at POST screen ? Mine is OCZ PC6400 , but if I set FSB anything more than 400 then it'll say my ram is a 4300 ... weird.

    Now will not post

    P5B Deluxe with Xeon 3060 up and running for a month plus and now with improved cooling, so I decide to OC getting 2.8GHz on auto voltage, then set vCore to 1.3v, Mem Volts to 2.15v to achieve an easy 3.2GHz.

    What the hey, keeping the memory BIOS at 2.15v and vCore at 1.3000v, I boot into WinXP 400x9 = 3600 MHz. When I start heavy CPU task (folding), it crashes.

    I pumped the vCore to 1.35v and reboot. I bring up folding; it works; I head to dinner. When I returned 1/2 hr I have the Windows logo and no apps. I reboot. Won't POST.

    I'm confident that the C.P.R. will bail me out - not. So I do the CLRTC trick, remove battery, yada yada yada, nothing.

    Suggestions?

    Try booting with one stick of ram. Then if still nothing, try moving the stick to other slots.

    Must be sompin else - tried your suggestions, plus G Skill from another (this one) computer with extra ram.

    Might have to reseat that CPU next, since that was the last mod. . . .

    unless other suggestions. . .

    So far
    1) C.P.R does not work (as on p. 2-22)
    2) Clear RTC RAM (p. 2-22) does not work
    3) memory reseats, etc. do not work
    4) put OS in the CD, just in case, does not work.

    Symptoms: No POST, just power on, then powers itself off, then powers itself on, but never posts. Since the machine does get past the self-test, I never see anything on the screen. . . .
