Version 0904 was removed from the ASUS site and FTP.
Maybe there was something wrong with it?

^Or maybe they r gonna post the final ver soon.
There's a version 0908, currently only on the ASUS FTP:
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...B/P5B-0908.zip
Got no other info about it.
Sounds like you hit the FSB wall of the CPU. My 6300 walls at 515.Originally Posted by echo5

This is my E6300 and p5b no mods.
Is capable of running 540fsb but not SuperPi stable.
The funny thing is i bought 2 of these boards.
One is vmodded and it stopps at 480fsb and this one without mods kan do over 520fsb.

Hmm different caps and an extra one in the first pic. Which clocks better?

I'm experiencing some major problems trying to overclock my P5B-E6400 system and really need some expert advice. So far no one I know or in the store could help me, so I'm hoping I'll have more luck with you guys!
My specs:
C2D E6400 (2,17 Ghz)
Asus P5B
2x1GB OCZ DDR-II 800 Mhz 4-4-4-15
GF8800GTS
stock cooling, Antec 480 PSU
I just want to mildly overclock this system, so it reaches E6600 stock speeds. I was hoping getting somewhere near 350-400 FSB, but so far even 300 Mhz is completely unstable! No matter what I try, I can't get it past 290 FSB.
Here 're the settings I tried:
- FSB only from 266 -> 333 !
- multiplier 8x (standard)
- Mem speed downgraded tot 667 (-> FSB/Mem 1:1 divider)
- very loose mem timings:
latency: 5
RAS to CAS delay: 6
precharge: 6
activate to precharge: 15
- CPU VCore Voltage: 1.3625V
- Mem Voltage: tried both 2.0V en 2.1V
- FSB Termination Voltage: 1.3V (=max)
Other settings:
PCI-E Frequency: locked @ 100
PCI Clock Synchronization Mode: locked @ 33.33MHz
Spread Spectrum: Disabled
C1E Support: disabled
Max CPUID Value Limit: disabled
Vanderpool: disabled
CPU TM Function: Enabled
Execute Disable Bit: Enabled
With these settings, the system should be stable, no? Or am I doing something wrong? Memtest86 and Prime95 are perfectly stable at stock settings, and the temperatures don't get too high.
First I thought it would be my OCZ mem sticks, but with above settings they're running only at 333 Mhz, while the combination FSB 280 - mem 420Mhz (4:5) I tried before was stable!
Help!!

Try this:
PCI-E Frequency: 101Mhz if you got problems try 110Mhz![]()
Mine is now at 8x400Mhz 101Mhz, but the other mobo with BIOS 506 need 110Mhz...
After flashing the BIOS all is alright.
8x400Mhz
Vcore: 1.4v in BIOS = 1.35v idle and 1.3v Load![]()

Run memtest on the ram, if it passes inc vcore a bit.

Heh so I finally found out what the prob was: I flashed my P5B tot the latest bios (0806) and suddenly those exact same settings bring me to 8x333 Mhz rock stable! Didn't even try upping it to higher FSB speeds but I'll try that later.Originally Posted by PearlChoco
What bothers me though is the temps I get: 66-68°C @ idle and 80-82°C @ stress ?!! (measured with Intel TAT) isn't this way too high?
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I reinstalled my CPU (+cooler) a couple of times... and I should change the cooling paste?
Some advice please!
Some more details.. Screencap during max stress.
Yes try remounting ihs and putting new paste, those temps are way too hi for that voltage.

There is no clockgen or clockgen equivalent for P5B Vanilla. Hopefully someone can help us out soon tho.![]()

The new bios build listed in the previous post(s) is excellent and is far better than the 0808 and is far more stable (especially at higher speeds)
