RD600 first look and general questions

How noisy is that small fan ussually? Sorry, never had a DFI board before, so I'm just curious. Not that it would stop me from buying this board however...

What would this board be able to do with an E6300? Would it be a waste of money on a chip like that?

I imagine that the board will come down in price though. The ATI chipsets are ussually less expensive than any nvidia or intel chipsets, so they can afford to make it cheaper.

Two things about this board make me think voltages will be more stable than what we've been used to on the Intel side...

1. It's got 6-phase digital pwm.

2. It's not an Intel chipset.

It simply can't have as many bugs as the 680i. I have never seen a new release with as many problems. maybe the delay in the 600 release spells better quality control. I sure hope so.

I think thats what it was mostly about, squeezing more out of it than they ever originally designed it for, and making sure it was rock stable.

Very rarely is there a significant (or even noticeable) vdroop on DFI boards, especially the Lanparty series. I expect this to be the same.

1)
cpu socket is so close to the edge of the baord you can forget about using anything other than a smaller heatsink. no way in hell a Sythe or even an XP-90 would fit properly inside of a case unless you had 3 inches of clearance above the board which most dont.
2)
bottom PCI-E slot is useless. once again, its right on the edge of the board and anything other than a slim stock heatsink wont work.
again putting the much needed air flow to a video card right out the window as the heatsink will be sitting smack dab on the bottom of the case.
3)
NB heatsink, once again too close to the heatsink to allow any of the newer larger good heatsinks to fit properly.
4)
this is bullsh|t and you DFI designers need to wake the fvck up. you put the RAM slots right smack agains the video card.
if the locking brackets dont hit the video card you have to pull the video card half way out just to get your hand in there to unlock the ram.

are designers so blind and dumb that they cant see these things ?
are they so used to testing equipment on a test bench that they dont wake up and realise that "oh god when they put this in a case.. jesus.. its not gunna fit

edit: vr-zone states that the last pcie slot is a x8 for physics; and also the NB cooler in the anandtech pics are diff from that of the vr-zone, just FYI.

That's why DIMM slots belong ABOVE the CPU socket, as per the DFI Ultra-D.

Not 100% true. If you look at the socket you will see that in the case of using a Tr Ultra 120. The cooler will be mounted horizontally on the motherboard with the fan blowing up and not not to the back, making very little of the cooler to be over the edge of the motherboard even.This mounting will be a problem though if you don't have a P180 or some case like it with a fan in the top. A Ninja might be too big but a Infinity (which is less square-ish) should be ok in in horizontal mounting...

That's Tony making a sexy "collage" of mobbos. If you look close at the image you can see a 4X Pci-E port so it's the Nforce 680i board not the Ati Rd600. If you look even closer you can see the text "NF 680i" near the Cpu socket.
