Tested in superpi 32m, 3dmark 2005, Vietcong (beginning level with pretty low fps even on latest hardware, but good on c2d....)
For some reason when running with 8 multiplier on the 1407 bios 445-450 would random restart and only do 1mb Pi. Flashing back to 1403 the restarts went away & @ 8 X 450 can do 1mb pi, 8 X 445 can do 8 mb pi repeatedly but 32mb pi is hit & miss(my previous board wouldn't do 32mb pi @445FSB at all), & 440FSB is stable for everything.

its hung a few times, but when i recently tried to disable that, it would hang no matter what...i re-enabled it, it worked.

this is not a fresh install of windows

one thing i might suspect is my PSU, its 430w, but with the conroe's low power consumption, i've been assuming its enough

the.edge even if you boot with it enabled you can just disable the onboard sound in windows and use the xfi, or leave it enabled and just set the xfi as your primary output

I cant disable C1E for some reason, only option showing in BIOS is auto. EIST is disabled.

    BIOS 1401, any ideas?

Another question, should I give the 1403 a go?

Disabling EHCI as a pre-emptive strike last night didn't work, after reading it had cleared up the USB initialization failure for some. Today I couldn't get the the computer to start after a problem that seemed to need a restart to clear up. Eventually I got the 2048MB message indicating the USB initialization had finished, but then the HD search took too long and I gave up.

I'm putting EHCI back to Enabled and I'll hope for a cure to be discovered someday...

It did it for me. I had to go in and load setup defaults. After that all the options came up again.

With 1407 BIOS I couldn't use manual timings to RAM. System booted up normaly if I had SPD enabled but with manual timings it didn't even POST and I had to clear CMOS everytime just to get back to BIOS!? And this was with stock 266 FSB.

Now I'm back using good ol' 1305 and everything works like charm. No problems setting manually spec'd 5-5-5-12 for my Corsair XMS2's. Anyone else got the same problem with new BIOS?

What is the latest about Asus correcting the reset power shutting down bug?
You know when all power shuts off for a moment and scares the crap out of us, especially after a BIOS change.

I can set manual timings regardless of FSB - same ram, latest bios(1407) Currently at 417x9 4-4-4-12 1:1.

Tallman, I'm overclocking a friends rig this weekend... he has exactly the same setup MB/RAM (OCZ EL 2X1 gig PC2 8000 Platinum XTC Extreme Edition 4-5-4-15 ) except with an E6600.

What Bios are you using? can you please provide your full RAM Bios settings? At 390 FSB are you running 1:1 (DDR 780) or are you able to run at 4:5 divider (DDR 975)?

Anything else you learned RE: the BIOS that I might need to know?

    Thanks!

That's weird. I don't really understand why it doesn't work with my Corsairs. Maybe there is some differences between CL5 and CL4 sticks, but why can I go manual with older BIOS then? It's bit odd that board doesn't even boot back to BIOS without clearing CMOS.

    P5W-DH: Bios 1301 (1.02g)
    E6600 @ stock (was fine at 3ghz)
    Ram: 2x1gb Super Talent 4-4-3-8 ddr2-800
    dvd: nec 4570A
    ps: ocz gamestream 700w
    hsf: tt big typhoon
nb/sb: put AS5 prior to first post

My two sata seagate 320gig 7200.10's don't come til tomorrow, so I tried booting the system with an old IDE IBM 10 gig drive. Set the IBM as primary (master) and NEC as primary (slave) on the blue IDE connector to the side. When I boot up with a WinXP CD to install, the drive spins up, it shows "setup is inspecting your hardware configuration", then it disappears, and it's a black screen for the next 5 minutes.

Then, without warning it seems to come back alive and resume what it's doing- the blue DOS screen where it's searching for components and asks you to set partitions and copy files over.

I'm really hoping this all just works with the sata seagates tomorrow but for some reason I'm just not feeling very confident in it. I'm not very familiar with the AMI bios, and can't even find where to tweak memory timings. It says "C1E" is required to do certain things but I can't find out how to enable C1E or whatever.

Well, I never figured out WHY my machine didn't POST at all with 1407. I have lots of practice now at resetting the CMOS. One ASUS phone-support tech told me that since 1407 didn't fix any specific problem I actually had, I should just flash back to 1305 which worked and be happy and never flash again until I have a need that they've fixed.

I do run my Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4 manually at 4-4-4-12, but never got around to resetting everying to stock just to convince 1407 to boot.

I guess I'll tell ASUS that maybe that's the problem, if they ever respond to my email asking for more than a brush-off when their latest BIOS doesn't work...

How do i flash with an older bios?

I've bootet up my usb pen drive, and are ready to flash, but no go!
    it says:

The bios is too old. I'm trying the 701 bios.

    Edit:

Okey, worked with 1305 bios, maybe it was to old?
