If you do not have a diskette drive, you can install Intel Matrix
Storage Manager Driver by the following alternative procedure:

Note: If you select AHCI for Serial ATA (SATA) in the BIOS Setup
Utility before installing Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver,
your computer will not respond; it will only display a blue screen.

    1. Start the BIOS Setup Utility menu.
    2. Select "Config".
    3. Select "Serial ATA (SATA)".
    4. Select "Compatibility".
    5. Install Windows XP and Service Pack 2.
    6. Download Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver from the Web site and
    extract the driver to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\SATA.
    7. Run Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver. To do this, go to
    C:\DRIVERS\WIN\SATA\PREPARE, and double-click install.cmd.
    8. Turn the computer off and then on again.
    9. Start the BIOS Setup Utility menu.
    10. Select "Config".
    11. Select "Serial ATA (SATA)".
    12. Select "AHCI".
    13. Start Windows XP. The Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard
    appears.
    14. Click "No, not this time", and then click "Next".
    15. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then
    click Next.
    16. Select "Search for the best driver in these locations". Then select
"Include this location in the search:", specify the path,
C:\DRIVERS\WIN\SATA, and click "Next". The Completing the Found New
    Hardware Wizard appears.
    17. Click "Finish".
    18. When the System Settings Change window appears, click "Yes". The
    computer restarts.

I have one question on AHCI that I could never get answered. Is it only available if you have the Gigabyte sata ports enabled? I had the Gigabyte DS3 installed with my 6700 initially, but have recently switched over to the P5NSLI motherboard. Overclocking was not my main goal, but using both of the 7900gtx's that I had from my previous AMD build was.
However, I just purchased a 6400 and plan in putting it with the DS3 in my second rig. I have a Plextor sata dvd-rw. If I disable the Gigabyte controller, doesn't that grey out the AHCI option? I will be using a Seagate 7200.10 (perpendicular recording) sata2 hard drive and want to make sure that I get the most out of it that I can.

What would be the best wasy for me to configure my bios settings? I will not be using any pata drivers, so I don't need use of the pata port.
