It looks like AMD started to use solder instead of paste. Sorry for the loss.

AMD using Solder because of the better thermal conduction.

Intel has been soldering the IHS on their CPUs for a while now, I wondered when AMD would start doing it. Guess this is the answer

mind taking another closeup shot and trying to make it a touch less blurry? be sure to use macro (flower button fwiw ), and use something to stabilize the lens to get a clear shot. lots and lots of light is nice too

do you just want to be able to see it better because you're curious? or you think it can be fixed?

I came up with The BEST method for removing the soldered IHS's...
Shimano @ VR zone killed 3 cpu's trying to remove soldered heatspreaders... i've killed 2... and i've had 2 successful removals, and eventually crushed all the cores cause im careless...

a few users have removed heatspreaders without crushing... or ripping the die off...

check it out... IF you feel brave enough to risk your cpu... my method is tried tested and true

it is a top down upgrade for AMD that will be happening over the next two months. Which will provide:
    1) lower temps
This is done because AMD is taking a few hints from Intel on IHS design for LGA sockets and have confirmed Solder is a superior Interface material over the Entire thermal spectrum.
