P5WDG2 WS Pro, stoopid question...

Andrewyang mentioned in a thread that you need to change the read delay on this board to 7 to get past a fsb wall.

For the life of me I cannot find the setting in the bios.

I have 0206 bios

e6600 at 400, 1:1 ram

can't seem to slide past that, that was stable right off the bat with a little extra voltage.

So the question is, where the hell is that setting in the bios?

Read delay is in chipset section, just under Hyper Path 3.

I have the 0206 bios, reflashed it, and cleared cmos after battery removal, etc...

I still only see DRAM Throttling Threshold under Hyper Path 3

Is their another bios I am missing out on?

actually if you look at the date on the bios it is a newer one than 0206, just a beta code of 0004

I'll be building my PC (again) with a P5WDG2 WS Pro next tuesday or so.

What are the settings or options that I have to disable in order to go ahead with a good overclock.

I have to ask this since having a Gigabyte, an Intel and now an Asus board, I know that all this settings kind of have different names under different manufacturers.

is there a C1E setting with this board?
What about RAM throttling? (first time I see this)
What is HyperPath 3? (Sound like an AMD option)

If you are familiar with P4 boards, Hyper Path is essentially PAT (Performance Acceleration Technology). Asus engineers were the first to enable PAT on the old 865 boards. But they couldn't use the term PAT because it's trademarked by Intel. So Asus calls it Hyper Path.

But having said all that, it's usually better to disable Hyper Path 3 if you want high FSB with Conroe. PAT worked great on the 865 boards. It gave them roughly the same performance as the more expensive 875 boards.

Kentsfield won't do 380FSB on this board. The only board I've tried that would hit 380-400FSB with Kentsfield is the P5B Deluxe. But the P5WDG2 WS Pro allows me to use multipliers above 10. And it offers better top speed. The CPU tops out around 3.8GHz on air, which is better than many Conroe chips. For 24/7 operation, I think 3.5-3.6GHz would be good. Kentsfield is not a high FSB chip. But when it comes to rendering, it will annihilate every other CPU. The Rosetta people say it's also a great chip for folding.

I think a lot of FSB-crazed Conroe/Allendale users are going to be in for a real shock when they try Kentsfield. Personally, running at 330X11 or 340X11 doesn't bother me at all. If you use the 2:3 ratio, you can still run your memory at DDR2-1000.

I've already got the chip quad-Prime stable at 3.4GHz with this board.

I got bored and stuck my 6600ES in the board. Air cooling (Tuniq Tower 120). Seems okay.

Just a few notes. Maximum FSB was around 470-475 @ 1:1 regardless of which multiplier I used. But that's actually pretty decent for a 975X board. The 2:3 ratio works pretty well, but not as well as on the P5B Deluxe. 4:5 is okay. All of the memory ratios I've tried work. There's also 4:3 which I might use later in an effort to push FSB even higher.

Sierra, how many volts did you have to push through your ES to get the 470 fsb?

How did temps do with your cooling?

thanks for the bios BTW, was able to get better memory timings at the 400fsb i have, but still have problems with prime x2 with large fft's, so the memory just does not have it in it to keep up, I have some cheapo rev2 ocz platinum pc6400, so got what I paid for.

Will try some real world stuff this week, gaming and encoding and see if my overclock will be stable through that.

my e6600 is a bit concave, so temps are not great, running high 50's at load, with water, so may be my max, i am happy with 3.6ghz, it is the best clock I have gotten, was only able to get a %30 OC out of my x2 4400 on a DFI CFX3200-DR motherboard. So, overall I am quite happy with what I got, after selling my old parts, only out of pocket about $100 for this new setup, so, no complaints.

I was using 1.675v. Don't try that at home.

It is an ES chip, so it may not be typical of what people get with retail 6600's. With 1.5v, CPU temp is around 42C. Both Asus Probe and the Core Temp program are in agreement.

The board does not seem to have bad voltage droop, which is probably why I can clock my CPU's a little higher. As someone else mentioned, the board may overvolt a little.

One thing about running dual Prime. Conroe will heat up very quickly. Kentsfield is much worse. I'm not sure if Asus Probe is accurate, but I was seeing temps in the low 80's while running quad-Prime. And that was with VCore at only 1.45v! Kentsfield has a Max Tcase temp of 100C.

Wow, out of pocket only $100. That's really good.

LOL, I got $200 for the board, $450 for the processor, sold 3 days before price drop, on ebay, so glad their was some poor saps with cash who did not know, and $100 for my old ass, 2 year old, corsair ram, great overclocking ram, but slow by todays ddr standards.

Paid: $165 for the OCZ ram after rebate
$310 shipped for the mobo
$358 shipped for e6600
$50 for swiftech chipset block and new tubing

so a little more than $100, but if you don't count the waterblock...LOL
