    Symptoms (not exclusive):

    • Windows XP SP1/SP2/whatever hangs on install at exactly 34 minutes remaining;
    • User only able to install Windows XP after multiple (20+) tries;
    • Windows freezes on bootup or takes several minutes to boot up to desktop.

Solution : Use another brand of PSU! The incompatibility is more likely when using ASUS powersupplies (not only P5W DH). Antec pretends a BIOS update fixes this (no bios up to 1101 on P5W DH works). They also offer to fix the PSU via RMA (yet to be tested).

Props to Carcamel for the solution! You da man!

That was my most frustrating build ever so far. But the reward should be plenty considering I upgrade from an Athlon XP
    Well..

I had NO problems at all, running my NeoHE 500W (The New rev. which was supposed to be fixed, btw) along with the P5B / P5W-DH and an X6800..
Got the X6800 to 4 Ghz, on Air, with it as well.

I didnt have even 1 problem with the PSU.

    Hey

I just got my P5W Dh Deluxe and E6600.

My problem is I am runing 4 SATA HD drives and no raid.

As I see there is only 3 sata connections + the raid's.

I would like to use my 4 drives with no raid any way of doing this ??

    Thx in advance

You probably missed the 4th SATA port - the solo standing JMicron SATA connector right next to the I/O area of the mobo.

    Red face

Not sure if anybody else has seen this:-

    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=83477

"Mine isn't having this problem at present. You've probably already done this, but make sure the copper heatsinks on the Northbridge etc have their plastic cover removed. It's quite hard to spot at first, but there are 3 copper parts with a plastic sheath over them to prevent damage during transport.

If you missed that, it would likely explain the temperatures."

Kicking myself for missing the plastic!

I took that plastic off the first day I got them. That plastic doesn't get in the way anyway because those metal plates are hardly connected to the main heatsinks at all so don't pick up much heat. It's much better to just remove the metal covers completely...

Just take the covers off all together, nothing but double sided tape holding them on. All they do is stop the air flow, stupid design.

Yes it works with the orange one.
I have 4 sata hd's connected that way.
It worked straight away without doing anything in bios.

did anyone try the vmch mod to get more volts and did it help to raise fsb ?

I've love a BIOS (i.e. not CrystalCPUID) that unlocks the multiplier on Step 5 ES chips. No multiplier change option visible in either BIOS 903 or 1101.

Hmmm...It looks like I have a FSB wall on my P5W around 415FSB...I can`t pass it even with:

    VCORE 1.60V
    VMCH: 1.65V
    VFSB: 1.40V
    VICH: 1.20V

    Ram on SPD....
    Divider 8 and 9...

Any suggestion? I`m using the 1101 BIOS, CPU water cooled by high-end water cooling...The system hang up and the screen freezes or just restart...

I will take photos with my mobile phone (cell phone for you Americans).

For now, here's another. From now on I think Large FFTs is the way to go, it's tests more the stability of the overall system but still stresses the cpu to the full aswell.

Try using 2 instances of newest prime version then make torture test-> custom-> klick "run FFTs in place" . For me Orthos was stable but this crashes after a min. So give it a try. You can run 2 instances by by using commandline parameters -> ...prime95.exe -aX . X=1 CPUCore 1 and X=2 CPUCore 2

can't be assed, the cpu is stable.

Oh and what you're telling me to do is exactly what I already ran. Notice to Large, in-place FFTs option is selected? That IS running 2 instances of what you want me to run.

Im having the same problem at the same place. mines hitting wall @ 414fsb with my oem e6700. Ive found if i set the memory settings to spd with 1:1 I can boot in and pass 32m super pi and dual primes @ 424mhz but my memory defaults to 5-6-6-12 havent had as much time as Id like to play with it though. this weekend im going to play around with memset some more and see if i cant get any higher.

this could just be the mch hitting its limit though as its unmodded board and only doing 1.65 mch. if I cant get around the 414mhz with normal timmings im going to do the vmod on it sunday

Have a question , actually it 's been 2 days my P5w DH doesn't boot in the morning .It just halt at drives detection and I must reset and confirm bios changes and everything's ok then

Is it what you call "cold boot bug" ?

If so , how can I manage to avoid that ?

    just annoying

I don't think there's a lot of retail E6600's @ 9x able to hit 415FSB bootable- testing or no testing. Definitely not on air.

Most air guys are hitting walls around 360FSB-370FSB, including myself. I can do 3.4GHz but with WAY too much VCore.

Every person has his own opinion of being stable, just wrote that for everyone here. Have tried Orthos first and was very happy to see that everything is stable, just like in your case, but after trying this i had my doubts about Orthos even though it`s the same core of prime
