wait so bigger cores are able to run higher voltage than smaller ones??
i thought more voltage = more power, and Conroe doesnt use much power does it??
whats the stock VCore for Conroe??

his is running only one core, is you bench with one core as well?Originally Posted by FUGGER
i think stock volts is something around 1.1v or 1.2vOriginally Posted by theteamaqua
the arch. allows the higher voltage. if you remember p3 days they were able to take 1.8v, while netburst has massive leakage adding higher voltage with the already high heat output causes damage. Think of conroe along the same lines as p3's when it comes to handling voltage increases.

Damn that's overvolting it for sure. Could it be that cpu throtle and thats why the bench is so off? Anyway i'm glad that Conroe can take such pounding even for a short benchmark. I can only emagine what these cpu's will do later on with ln2 and perhaps 2.0 vcore?

ill say it again, Core 2 XE X6800 4GHz stable with air cooling is no dream, i guess you just need enough voltage and a good mobo, at first i couldnt believe that, but now i do , nice work man !!

So... we really need a new standard![]()
On-topic now :p Nice 4GHz. I remember someone mentioned the new Core Duo was able to hit 4GHz air cooled, but when Yonah came out not a lot people still believed in that. But now we have seen this...

it's probably just me but i seem to have no ever seen any temp readings. What kind of temps can we expect for conroe? anyone have any idea? Thinking pretty general here...
No one knows yet.Originally Posted by Garrett

4Ghz on air will be the norm with the E6700 and X6800 CPUs. Expect to see even better from the C1 stepping (I hear they are floating around....)

I know. The stock Vcore of Conroe is 1.15v, .2v less than 1.35v for 90nm AMD. So 1.78v for 65nm, must feel like 1.98v to a 90nm!Originally Posted by Repoman
On air too.
It's more like half a Conroe @ 4GHz on air, temps would be interesting too.
tbh, if i gave that to my 0.13 micron northwood. it would die of SNDS
intel must have pleased the manfacturing gods somehow...
What motherboard is this? LOL you are running higher vcore than Japan did on their 5 ghz run with ln2, that is awesome that Conroe can take the vcore like that.

@coolaler: when will you use DI/LN2? If you got those vga cards off stock cooling, I'm sure you'd have no problem taking down some wr for 3d.
I don't think thats the board, look at the cpu-z memory screen shots. cpu-z doesnt support reading the timings on the new RD600 chipset, and in this thread it has all the timings.Originally Posted by thunderstruck!

Conroe takes more volts than AMD, due to lack of memory controller or just design?
C1 stepping is sounding good... if B0 -> C1 is anything like A1->B0, we're going to see another nice bump in clocks, and i mean NICE.
